Treats can add more to your dog\u2019s daily calorie intake than you realise, which can put your dog on the path to weight gain.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-do-i-need-to-count-treats\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Why do I need to count treats? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Too many treats can mean too many calories. What\u2019s a calorie? It\u2019s a unit of energy. In practical terms, it\u2019s how much energy each food gives your dog. If they don\u2019t use it all, they\u2019ll store the extra as fat. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Some foods are calorie dense \u2013 they contain a lot of calories in each gram of food. These high-calorie foods aren\u2019t necessarily bad, but give your dog too many too often, and they can quickly lead to doggy obesity.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-many-calories-does-my-dog-need\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How many calories does my dog need?<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It\u2019s easy to look up the recommended daily calorie allowance for humans, but less straightforward for dogs. That\u2019s because every dog is different.
