Whilst humans have around 9000 taste buds, dogs only have about 1700 &#8211; meaning they\u2019re just not interested in a variety of food in the same way we are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When dogs aren\u2019t eating their kibble, it\u2019s usually attention-seeking, tiredness or just them looking for something better, so it\u2019s important to work out whether they\u2019re genuinely bored of their food, or just being fussy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-set-mealtimes\"><strong>Set mealtimes<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure you\u2019re not giving into puppy-dog eyes between mealtimes. If your dog doesn\u2019t finish their food, try taking it away after 20 minutes and avoid giving any treats or titbits until their next meal. You\u2019ll probably find your dog wolfs the next meal down. If they\u2019re still not tucking in after a day or so, there are some other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=zb-Zrndfb2o\">tips you can try<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-try-to-avoid-top-ups\"><strong>Try to avoid top ups<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>We know it&#8217;s worrying when your dog&#8217;s not eating, and it can be tempting to give them a bite of your chicken dinner or some treats. But try to resist! Some pups are super smart and have learnt if they hold out just a little longer&#8230; They&#8217;ll get something something extra special.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-puzzle-or-interactive-feeders\"><strong>Puzzle or interactive feeders<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Puzzle feeders and interactive feeders (like <a href=\"https:\/\/tails.com\/blog\/2023\/01\/20\/diy-snuffle-ball\/\">snuffle mats<\/a>) can add some fun to mealtimes. They\u2019re great for mental stimulation &#8211; and receiving praise when they\u2019ve finished the puzzle is irresistible for any dog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-add-something-new\"><strong>Add something new<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If your dog won\u2019t finish their kibble on its own, try adding vegetables, low-salt gravy or even some <a href=\"https:\/\/tails.com\/gb\/range\/wet-dog-food\/\">wet food<\/a>.
