From dog beer to dog tea, and yes, even pawsecco. But when it comes to rehydration &#8211; is water really the king of the drinking bowl? We rounded up the questions everyone\u2019s asking to see what\u2019s best, and why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-drink-is-good-for-my-dog\"><strong>What drink is good for my dog?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s be honest. Dogs and fresh, clean drinking water are a match made in hydration heaven. Water is absolutely the best drink you can give them. If they\u2019re fussy and turn their noses up at drinking water from the tap, there are a few tips you can follow before cracking open the Evian.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Try an ice cube, instead<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make a doggy <a href=\"https:\/\/tails.com\/blog\/2020\/06\/24\/time-for-brunch-a-very-berry-smoothie-recipe\/\">smoothie<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make an <a href=\"https:\/\/tails.com\/blog\/2020\/08\/03\/watermelon-our-new-favourite-ingredient\/\">ice pop<\/a> (watermelon is great because it\u2019s 80% water)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Offer it from your hand&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mix some into their kibble blend<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure it\u2019s fresh<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wash bowls daily<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flavour it with a bit of <a href=\"https:\/\/tails.com\/blog\/2022\/09\/26\/beef-broth-recipe\/\">broth<\/a> (yummy)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If your dog is weird about water, try praising them and giving them a treat every time they drink.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-can-dogs-drink-milk\"><strong>Can dogs drink milk?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Milk is full of healthy nutrients like calcium and protein, but did you know most dogs are lactose intolerant? We don\u2019t put any dairy into our kibble either, because it\u2019s actually not a good choice for your dog.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Milk can upset their digestive system and make your dog feel quite poorly \u2013 leaving you with the mess to clean up. Not all dogs drinking milk will have this reaction straight away, and it can vary from dog to dog how much will upset their stomach. The best advice is to err on the side of caution and simply not give them any.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-can-dogs-drink-tea-or-coffee\"><strong>Can dogs drink tea or coffee?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Giving your leftover tea to your dog sounds harmless enough, but caffeine can be toxic to dogs. When they\u2019re so much smaller than us, what might seem like a harmless sip (or lap) to you, can play havoc with their health. Caffeine toxicity levels and their size means it\u2019ll take no time at all before the caffeine jitters turn into something more serious.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So no, we don\u2019t recommend you give your dog:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tea<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coffee&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any other caffeinated drink<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>That includes sports drinks and fizzy drinks, too\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you think they\u2019ve lapped up your grande latte, guzzled down some grounds or more, look out for these symptoms and call your vet immediately:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Restlessness&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Racing pulse<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rapid or irregular heartbeat<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Agitation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hyperactivity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vomiting&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Panting&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tremors or seizures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-can-dogs-drink-alcohol\"><strong>Can dogs drink alcohol?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Absolutely not. Ever. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not cool, okay or funny to give any dog a sip of beer, wine or other alcohol. Your dog\u2019s kidneys and liver are not made for filtering (metabolise) alcohol through them! It\u2019s not just wine, beer and spirits that have alcohol in them either, it might be surprising to know that soy sauce, uncooked bread dough and gone-off fruit are common household culprits, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-about-specialist-doggy-drinks\"><strong>What about specialist doggy drinks?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dog-friendly drinking alternatives like alcohol-free dog beer, wine and prosecco and health tonics and herbal tea for dogs (minus the caffeine) are treats. We think they should be an occasional treat, not a regular part of your dog\u2019s diet. But your dog will likely prefer a tasty and more nutritious biscuit or similar bite-size treat with a little water instead of a fancy drink.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-water-please\"><strong>Water, please<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For your dog, drinking water really is the best way to keep them hydrated and healthy \u2013 no other dog drink comes close.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Water is really key in summer, when drinking it helps your <a href=\"https:\/\/tails.com\/blog\/2018\/07\/04\/how-to-keep-your-dog-cool-in-hot-weather\/\">dog cool down<\/a>.
