Not ideal when they\u2019re chewing your slippers or new bag. We thought we\u2019d take a look at the reasons behind it, so you know what to do if your puppy is chewing something they shouldn\u2019t be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-is-my-puppy-chewing\"><strong>Why is my puppy chewing?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Puppies chew things. Sometimes things you love and wish they wouldn\u2019t. Chewing supports play, exploration, teething, and it\u2019s an occupier. In other words, it keeps them busy. But give them boundaries on what they can \u2013 and can\u2019t \u2013 chew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-do-i-stop-my-puppy-chewing-everything\"><strong>How do I stop my puppy chewing everything?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s an easy fix :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Take away whatever they\u2019re gnawing on&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Replace it with a suitable toy or dog chew<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a mix of different toys around<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep them entertained with flavoured, noisy and puzzle toys. They help mental development as well as being fun, safe ways to play.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If teething is the issue<\/strong>, try popping their toys in the fridge or freezer. Chewing on something cool will soothe their gums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Another great tip:&nbsp; puppy-proof your house<\/strong>. Get down on the floor and have a good look around. What would you chew on if you were a puppy? Wires, plants, shoes\u2026they\u2019re all fair game, so move them away or keep them covered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-my-puppy-is-chewing-wood-help\"><strong>My puppy is chewing wood &#8211; help!<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Teeth marks on skirting boards, door frames and table legs can be very annoying (and costly!). It\u2019s usually just boredom, but it can also be a sign of separation anxiety as your puppy sees chewing on these things as a way to escape.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A little bite won\u2019t do much harm (we can\u2019t say the same for your furniture) but it\u2019s important to stop them from getting into any bad habits. Wood can break and splinter which can be dangerous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep lots of fun toys around to distract them from the table legs, and if that doesn\u2019t help, there are a few special sprays available that taste bitter and act as a deterrent. Have a look in your local pet shop, or have a chat with your vet to find the best one for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-my-puppy-s-biting-me\"><strong>My puppy&#8217;s biting me<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s completely normal for your puppy to go through a biting phase.
