We love quick, easy-to-make recipes to treat our dogs with, and these pretty breakfast snowballs are just the thing. They are a great weekend treat, and – even better- they’re made with super simple ingredients you probably already have in your cupboard: think rolled oats, peanut butter, bananas and a sprinkling of desiccated coconut. That’s it.
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: banana is one of our favourite dog-friendly ingredients. Full of potassium and rich in fibre, bananas are one of the best fruits to give your dog. Here, we’re mashing ½ a banana with peanut butter, oats and a little water before rolling balls of the mixture in desiccated coconut. It’s a year-round, protein-rich treat.
To top it off, these breakfast snowballs are just as tasty for humans as they are for dogs!
Servings
8 – 10 snowballs
What you’ll need
150g rolled oats
2 tsp xylitol-free peanut butter
½ a ripe banana
100g desiccated coconut
50ml water
Mixing bowl
Method
- Mash the banana and mix it with the oats, water, and peanut butter in a mixing bowl
- Use a little water to dampen your hands, then roll the mixture into small balls
- Roll the balls in the desiccated coconut until well covered
- Store in an airtight container in the fridge, or pop them in the freezer
The snowballs make a great hot weather treat too – when they’re frozen, they’re a little bit like Mochi ice cream! We’d love to see your creations, just tag us using #tailsdotcom
The oat quantity in the video and recipe aren’t the same?
When I made this as per the recipe, still had half the coconut left.
Which is correct?
Dog loved it anyway!
Good spot Tony! That’s my fault – oops. I’ve updated the blog now with the correct amount (150g oats). I’m so glad to hear they were delicious anyway!
