It’s typical isn’t it? We spend hours shopping for the perfect bed for our faithful companions, spend hard-earned money on it, carry it home and then the dog prefers to sleep on the floor. Well, there are a few reasons why your dog may prefer a spot on the floor to their bed and in this short post, and in the accompanying video, we’ll tell you what those reasons are.
Cold, hard truth
One of the things we humans like about our beds is that it’s somewhere warm to sleep, but we don’t tend to go to bed wearing furry coats. Dogs do, and especially during the summer months, cold wooden floorboards or chilly tiles may seem a lot more appealing to them than a fleece-lined bed. For animals that can’t sweat, they have to take every measure to keep cool that they can!
And on top of this, in the same way that some humans prefer a firmer mattress, many dogs do too. To confirm all of this, our head vet, Sean McCormack, shares his thoughts in the below video. And if your dog does struggle in the summer heat, we have some tips on keeping your dog cool when it’s hot.
