On those long, summer evenings and lazy weekends, you might fire up the barbecue and along with all the meat, you may well cook up some corn on the cob as well. While your dog’s eyes, nose and drooling mouth will be drawn to the sausages and burgers, the question today is whether or not they can stomach sweetcorn. Let’s find out.
Sweetcorn is neat corn
The good news is that yes, your dog can enjoy sweetcorn. These golden kernels offer no issues when it comes to your dog’s digestive system, though we’d encourage you to only feed them this treat in moderation. While it’s not going to harm your dog, it won’t do them a great amount of good either. Sure, theres a little fibre there, but there’s also a fair bit of sugar (hence the “sweet”) so it’s not exactly a healthy food. As a treat, fine, but too much or too often, and this will contribute to any weight problems your pooch might be having.

And going back to those barbecued corn on the cob, we really don’t recommend sharing these with your dog. Sure, you could remove the kernels and share those with the dog, but the cob itself can present a real choking hazard and we don’t want that. If you do want to give them some corn, we recommend sweetcorn from a can, and not too much of that either.
