Is your dog always hungry? Constant hunger can be difficult to manage, with some pups being hungry even when they don’t need more food. Certain breeds; Pugs, Labradors, Beagles and Dachshunds are well known for their large appetites. Given the opportunity they’d eat all day!
Tips if your dog is always hungry
- Feed a reduced energy diet (low in fat or calories) so your dog can be fed the maximum quantity of food.
- Check the fibre level of the diet. More fibre can slow digestion down, improve absorption and help your dog feel fuller after meals. For an adult, kibble will have 2–6% fibre, so look for one with more than 3% to ensure your dog is satisfied.
- Give your dog a rest after meals – it’s good for digestion and should give the messages from their stomach time to get through to their brain to stop feeling hungry.
- Divert your dog’s attention from their hunger; walks or play sessions at the key times may distract them. Don’t allow begging. It can be an effective tactic with friends and family, and once they’ve found success, they’ll keep trying.
- Try feeding small meals frequently, it can help with some dogs who can’t last from breakfast to dinner. Give a bit less breakfast and dinner to create lunch or an evening snack, whichever suits your dog and lifestyle.
- Give small amounts of cooked or raw vegetables as treats or bulk out your dog’s meals with these. Dogs often like the taste and crunch of vegetables and they provide lots of health benefits without many calories. Check first they’re safe to feed, avoiding onion, garlic, shallots, and leeks.
- Having trouble with weight control because of their appetite? Try measuring the daily amount into a separate container (preferably with a lid). This can then be used for treats as well as daily meals and you can be sure they’re getting the right amount each day. - Make sure your dog has access to fresh drinking water, it can be easy to mistake thirst for hunger.
There can be some medical causes for hunger, so make sure your dog is in good health. If they have any other concerning symptoms it may be worth discussing with your vet.
How do I change the amount of dried food in my delivery?
It has now changed to 3.8kg and I would like to leave it at 3.5kg as I still have some left and my dog prefers more wet than dry. The amount we received last month was perfect.

Would it possible to send my dogs food a little earlier because our post delivery is slow by the time it arrives they have run out of food. I had to give them some of their old food for a couple of days.

What kind of dog food do you have
Over the past few months my dog who turn 9 this year acts like a starved dog, to the point of stealing food and raking through the bins in the house. Sometimes she eats the wrapping on things as well. Do I need to take her to a vet or is the two meals a day simply not enough? Any help would be grand
