Tails.com and Purina PetCare: your questions, answered

Posted by

UPDATED 1st May 2018 – original post from yesterday remains below

Hi Everyone,

We made an announcement yesterday: we’ve chosen to change our investors, and to take investment from Purina. Your responses have helped us realise we didn’t go far enough to reassure you about what won’t be changing. We know how deeply you care about your dog, and how much trust you’ve put in us to give them the right nutrition – we take this very seriously.

So we wanted to be really clear on a few areas you’ve asked us about: quality, decision-making, investment, and our plans for the future. If there’s anything else, feel free to get in touch at questions@tails.com.

The quality of your dog’s food won’t change

Only tails.com kibbles have been specially developed to work with our game-changing customised feeding system. So, if you’re wondering whether you’ll find Purina products in your blend, the answer is no. When we created tails.com, there were no kibbles that did what we needed them to do. Our unique,  custom-made kibbles are at the absolute core of what we do: they’re the only way we can create truly tailor-made nutrition for dogs across the UK. We will continue to use them exclusively.

The change in investor will not change the quality of our food or the decisions we make – we will always put nutrition first. We guarantee we’ll still hold ourselves to the same standards we’ve always used to create our food. We’ve always made sure your dog’s recipe matches their changing needs, and we’ll continue to do so. And we guarantee the quality of our ingredients will stay the same.

We still make our own decisions

Although we’ve taken investment from Purina, we continue to make our own decisions about our food – your dog’s food. The move is from a group of investors on our board, who helped us get up and running, to one long-term investor on our board that can help us do more of what we do best. We’re still run by our own management team, and the team here at tails.com are all proud shareholders.

We chose this investment to do more of what we do best

Our commitment to providing tailored nutrition is as strong as it was the day we were founded. It doesn’t change with this investment. Purina has recognised what we’ve achieved in four years, see its potential for the future, and wants to nurture it, not change it. We chose this investment to help us do more of what we do best: high-quality nutrition, tailor-made for every tails.com dog.

Our plans: more people, more support, better technology

You and your dog are absolutely essential to tails.com. So, we will be investing in the kinds of things our customers tell us they care about. This investment allows us to hire more people in the team, which means more support for you and your dog (for example on the phones and email), plus improvements to our ground-breaking technology on the website and behind the scenes. We will also invest in marketing and advertising to spread the word about our life-changing nutrition.

We’re here to change the world of pet food for good – it’s our company’s mission, and it guides every decision we make. This new relationship, combined with all our passion and your support, means we’re one step closer to achieving it.

Best wishes,
Orinta Gaucyte

Original post published 30th April 2018

At tails.com, we’re on a mission to change the world of pet food for good – and to help us do that, we’ve chosen to take a significant investment from Purina PetCare. It’s a cause for celebration here at tails.com HQ: all the office dogs are in party hats today.

I joined tails.com (with my own dog Bardi) as Customer Experience Manager over three years ago. Since then I’ve made sure that you, our customers, are at the heart of what we do.

And for you, very little changes with this investment: our mission stays the same. However, you might have some questions on your mind, so my team and I have put together some answers below.

You can, of course, get in touch at questions@tails.com.

Best wishes,

Orinta Gaucyte

Customer Experience Manager

(P.S. I now have Nelson under my desk as I write this, here in the office. He’s my very springy little Springer pup, and he looks wonderful in a party hat.)

Will the quality of my dog’s food change?

No, we’ll continue to make the same high quality tailor-made nutrition your dog loves. That means we’ll still use our own range of customised tails.com kibbles, and we’ll continue to blend them according to your dog’s unique recipe, every month.

Should I expect any changes to the packaging?

We are always looking for ways to improve our packaging to serve you better. But we haven’t got any changes planned as part of this new relationship, so you’ll still see the waggy, bushy tail on your box each month.

Will I still be able to buy my dog’s favourite flavours and treats?

Of course! We’re not making any changes to the flavours in our recipes, and our treats will be as irresistible as ever. It’s business as usual in the tails.com blending rooms, and it’s great to have you with us, as always.

Will you still be based in the UK?

Yes, we will. We’ll operate as a standalone company, with the same management team and employees. Our head office, including our customer experience team, will continue to be based in dog-friendly Richmond; our blending rooms will still be in Heathrow, London. So whether you call, email or drop us a message on Facebook, we’re still right here for you.

Will my price change?

The new relationship with Purina PetCare will not change our pricing decisions. It’s always been important to us to bring you a new level of tailored nutrition at high street prices. Over the past year, as our costs, such as delivery, labour and ingredients have gone up, we have increased the price of some of our ranges. Wherever possible we work to avoid passing costs on to our customers, and we’ll continue to do so.

    1. Hi Tina,

We’re more than happy to take a look at Poppy’s blend and make any changes. Just send us an email at hello@tails.com and we’ll get started.

      Cheers,
      Sage

  2. I think a lot of people will probably be very put off by this as Purina is owned by Nestle which a lot of people boycott including myself. Such a shame as our dog is so fussy and she really likes your food but unfortunately I cannot help to line the pockets of such an awful unethical company such as Nestle, so as soon as I find an alternative it is with sadness that I will be cancelling my subscription.

    Regards

    Helen

    1. Hi Helen,
We’re continuing as a stand-alone business, run by our own management team. Your dog’s food will still be a blend of our own range of tasty kibbles, so she will continue to receive the same high quality meals. We’ll still be based in dog-friendly Richmond with our blending rooms in Heathrow, London.
      Thanks for getting in touch,
      Carly

      1. I appreciate that you are expecting to stay stand alone, but I, like many people are concerned about the venture with Purina. It is not noted for being a high end dog food company. Purina must clearly be receiving some benefit from this deal? Hopefully it is not at the expense of your pet food blends. I am not interested in supporting a huge American dog food company. I will entrust that is the situation changes and Tails loses control of their establishment, you will advise your loyal customers.

        1. Hi Gillian,

I hear you and we’ll always keep you up to date as we have done with this announcement. Purina understand that the way we do things, tailored nutrition for every dog, is the future of dog food. Knowing that we’re the only company that can do what we do, they want to be a part of it and help rather than change anything.

          Jack

      2. What does Purina gain from this Partnership, what is in it for them. What are you gaining from them, and what are they gaining from you.

        1. Hi Anne,

I’ve responded to another comment of yours and I hope this answered your questions. If you’d like to discuss anything further, we’ll be happy to do so. Just drop us a line at questions@tails.com.

          Jack

    2. I am afraid I have to agree with you. I think Tails will just become part of the great Nestle family and like any other large Corporation.

    3. We joined Tails only a couple of months ago and you have gone and made a major mistake by accepting investment from Purina. Their ideals and morals are nothing like what Tails have built your pet food business on. Our dog Beth has been on a vetinary metabolic food diet as she can gain weight easily and it took us a long time to make the decision to change to Tails as the blend you send Beth is very close to the vets one. Purina will let you believe they will not interfere but give them time and they will. I am sorry but we will have to think long and hard about this situation and we may stay with Tails in the meantime but if we think Purina has made a move to change the ingredients we will leave for sure.

      1. Hi Michael,

We understand how important our blends are to dogs like Beth. I want to assure you that we’ll never compromise on the quality of our ingredients and that’s a guarantee. We know the difference a tailor-made blend can make to your dog’s wellbeing, not to mention your own happiness at seeing just how much they thrive on their food. We make all the decisions about our food and we’ll continue to do so moving forward.

        Jack

    4. I feel the same way, Helen. I’ve also heard that Nestle use animal testing involving poor lab animals and that includes their Purina range of dog food.

      1. Hi Jennifer,

I’m sorry you feel this way, as a fellow animal lover and dog owner I completely appreciate your concern. We don’t believe in animal testing- and neither do Purina. The health and happiness of your dog will continue to be our number one priority.

We’d hate to see you go, but of course we understand that it’s a personal decision for you and your dog.

        Karri

    5. You read my mind Helen! I’ve just spoken to my wife about this after Tails email came through. Independent to me doesn’t mean having connections to such other companies and we are cancelling our subscription too. In a way I’m glad I’m not the only one to feel like this.

      1. Hi Reid

Oh no, we’re sad you feel this way, we do understand that these kind of things can be a very personal decision and if you ever wanted to come back to tails we’d absolutely love to see you.

        Best wishes,

        Emily

    6. Oh Helen what a shame your leaving tails,
My lovely Cassi is now on tails after searching all makes to no avail she still scratched her fee and sin away
The poor mite was red raw,
Then I saw the add which was totally new to me thought I would give it one last try we were now into our third month and she’s so much calmer her skin is returning to normal and she looks happier .
So please think twice before giving up tails. Sandra williams owner or a very happy shih’tzu Cassi

  3. Hi James just to let you know I’m out of work and i cannot afford to pay for daisy food anymore can i cancel please till I’m back in work thanks m.fletcher.

    1. Hi Faye,

We are always looking to expand our range of products to benefit our customers and their dogs, so we certainly hope to do so in the future!

      -Carly

  4. Good morning, Can you please guarantee you will not start to add animal derivatives to your food or an increase in wheat or any by products. I am slightly miffed that you are able to continue as was if Purina have invested. Surely they will want an input into the product range and surely a percentage of your profits?

    1. Hi Julie,

Your dog’s tailor-made food will still be a blend of our own range of tasty kibbles, so they will continue to receive the same high quality meals. We are continuing as a stand-alone business, run by our own management team, working from our own blending rooms. We won’t stop delivering the same great products with the same great nutrition that you and others love.

      Thanks,
      Carly

      1. As previously mentioned I would want in no way the service or food blends which really suit my dog’s needs to change in any way. Purina can be bought if the shelf and today I have not purchased their pet food. I will be monitoring changes and hopefully as you promise any changes will neither affect quality price or service.

        1. Hi Donna,

I hear you. We can guarantee that we will not be changing the quality of our ingredients, nor will you find any Purina products in your monthly deliveries. We’ve always put nutrition first and promise that we will continue to do so.

          Jack

      2. good morning Carly I am sorry but I am not happy with the bog standard reply you gave me as you did not answer my specific question regards to animal derivatives and wheat.

    2. Good morning Carly, I am sorry but I am not happy with your bog standard response as you did not assure me of not using the additives I mentioned.

  5. This worries me greatly. There have been numerous health scares and concerns with Purina products. How much input will they be having in the production of the food?

    1. Hi Caron,

We are continuing as a stand-alone business, run by our own management team working out of our own blending rooms. Your dog’s tailor-made food will still be a blend of our very own range of tasty kibbles, so they will continue to receive the same high quality.

      Best wishes,
      Carly

  6. I have tried numerous dog foods for my GSD. Most he won’t eat including Purina which is why he has Tails.com as it is the only one he will happily eat without causing any stomach upset. Can you guarantee that Purina food ingredients won’t be added into his food?

    1. Hi P. Faulkner,

Your dog’s food will still be a blend of our own range of tasty kibbles, so he will continue to receive the same high quality meals, using the same great ingredients and nutrition we have been using.

      Thanks,
      Carly

      1. Seeing how Nestle Purina now hold a majority stake in Tails.com, I be live it won’t be long before they start imposing cheap ingredients into the supply to make profit. I’m struggling to understand how you at Tails.com who claim to be so into animal welfare can ‘get into bed’ with a company with very dubious business practices, unethical animal welfare standards such as mass rabbit farming, continues animal testing etc, sorry but will be looking to source my dogs food elsewhere.

      2. Yes…. but you don’t seem to be answering the above questions with a simple yes or no. Will there be any added ingredients to the existing kibble we receive???

        1. Hi Anita,

No, we guarantee you that the quality of the ingredients in your dogs food will not change from the high standards we set ourselves.

          Jack

  7. I purposely moved away from purina pet food, does this now mean, that moving forward i’m to expect that Purina will end up back in my pets food?
i’m very concerned about this development and considering moving to another independent company despite the excellent service I’ve had

    1. Hi Claire,

Not to worry – your dog’s food won’t change. We’re still a standalone company and will continue to deliver the tailor-made blends and great service that we always have.

      Best,
      Sage

    1. Hi Mike,

We’re always hoping to expand, and the new investment should help us do this even quicker now.

      Best,
      Sage

  8. Always sad to see an independent swallowed up…but I guess that is business.I did an survey of my own during a animal behaviour course some years back and Purina did not come out well.
Please in form me if my dog food ingredients change.

Hope all goes well, change is difficult for everyone.

    1. Hi Lesley,

I’m sorry to hear you’re sad when we have such great news – your dogs tailor made blend will not change. Our custom kibbles and unique blends have made us who we are and are the reason we have gotten this far. This won’t change, and neither will the personalised service you’re used to.

Thank you for the well-wishes, and I hope the same for you and your pup.
      Sage

    1. Hi Helen,

Thanks so much for your well wishes! I’m happy to hear Molly is enjoying her tailor-made blend and her Dental Dailies. I’m excited for her to try the wet food as well, let me know how she gets on!

      Best wishes,

  9. I started mitzy on Tails because she was a rescue dog and I didn’t know what food she liked. Anyway we hit the jackpot with tails because she loves it. Even started my new fur babies on it and guess what they love it too. They look forward to meal times with a new enthusiasm actually barking and fussing till it’s in front of them. Then they settle down comfortable and with less gas. Bonus for us lol. 😂 Happy pets happy us. 🐶🐕

    1. HI Ann,

I’m so happy to hear your whole group is enjoying their tailor-made blends! I know what you mean about the gas, before my dog started on tails he could easily clear a room. It makes for such great meal times when you dogs actually enjoy and are enthusiastic about their food!

      Best wishes,
      Carly

  10. Sorry, but not impressed.
I believe this is the first stage of a large company getting rid of the competition.
Hope I am wrong, but time will tell.

    1. Hi Richard,

Purina are long term investors who share the same values as we do when it comes to our pets. This new relationship means we’ll be able to help even more dogs lead happier and healthier lives which is our ultimate goal!

      Best wishes,
      Carly

      1. It is such a shame you have decided that Nestle Purina should have an interest in your company. Part of my decision in feeding my dog your tails.com food was that your company appeared to have firm ethics and some integrity. Sadly, I no longer feel that this is the case. Nestle will work hard to take over your brand or destroy it. Why else would they be interested? Generally, reworked ingredients from the confectionary industry are put into dog food, which is why Mars and Nestle have pet food companies; Pedigree and Purina. I think tails has been very naive or very greedy. I don’t much care which it is. I’m disgusted.

        1. Hi Janet,

We hear your concerns and we’re really sorry you feel this way. The investment is an acknowledgement of how well we do what we do and how no-one else can provide the same tailor-made nutrition. We chose to take it to continue to help even more dogs like yours live their best lives, as happy and healthy as they can be.

We will always put nutrition and wellbeing first and the new relationship does not change this. I can assure you it’s as important to us as it is to all of our customers and their pets.

          Jack

      2. I cannot believe your reply to Richard. Purina have no morals and care more about profit than animal welfare. I have to echo the sentiments of most of the emails here. This is a bad thing for Tails.com and I am now looking for and alternative feed for our dogs. This I fear is a slippery slope for Tails.com and not one that will benefit the company. Surely you could have obtained investment from a more ethical sorce.

        1. Hi Jim

We’re really sorry you feel this way. We chose this investment as it best suited our mission to help change the world of pet food for good and it’s an acknowledgement of how well we do what we do and how no-one else can provide the same tailor-made nutrition. We chose to take it to continue to help even more dogs like yours live life to the fullest, as happy and healthy as possible.

Nutrition and wellbeing will always come first and the new relationship does not change this. As a fellow pet parent I appreciate that the decision on what to feed your dogs is a very personal one and if you ever wanted to come back to Tails we’d love to see you.

          All the best,

          Emily

      3. Oh dear… Nestle as a whole does not share the same values as I hoped you did… they are an unethical company that puts profit over human dietary needs let alone that of a pet… I they create artificial products made from bacteria poo and call it sugar free… they syphon reservoir water from locals and bottle it up and sell it back to said locals…. the top man is quoted… water is a privilege not a human right… pls research these so called ppl and their values. If your values really are the same.. I’m cancelling now… my Baxter loves your food… the only one that has ever fit with him. I am very careful about whom I buy my products from and Nestle is number one on my list to boycott… I will be looking elsewhere. This is such a shame for your company but they won’t be happy til they eat you up. Good luck.. I feel this is tails downfall.

        1. Hi Debbie

Our commitment to providing tailored nutrition remains the same and it has not changed with this investment. All that has happened is that Purina has seen all that we have achieved and they can also see our potential so they want to nurture it, not to change it. We chose this investment to help us reach more dogs and provide high quality nutrition, tailor-made to ensure they live their best lives. Our morals have not changed and we only ever want to give dogs like Baxter the very best nutrition they can get.

We really hope Baxter continues to enjoy his Tails food and do feel free to drop us a line if you ever have any questions.

          Best,

          Emily

  11. I am very worried about your collaboration with Purina and I would like a guarantee that I will never receive Purina’s suspect food product for my dogs to eat.
    Their morals are questionable.

    1. Hi Alyn, Mason, and Rufus,

You dog’s tailor-made food will still be a blend of our own range of tasty kibbles, so they will continue to receive the same high quality meals made in our own blending rooms. We’re continuing as a stand-alone business, run by our own management team. We won’t stop delivering the same great products and service that you and others love!

      Thanks,
      Carly

  12. I am extremely worried by this news! While it’s good you get more money as we all know it’s only time before their substandard food is forced upon you to make the numbers work!!
I have stated away from pitons because of its low protein high cereal and fat content not to mention cost!! On average lie protein 20 pct or a bit more and I know that justification can mean eyeballs wings etc or cheapest most unethical sourced product bulking out with as much cereal and fat.
How can you gaurantee that Digby with all his problems who now is healthy won’t have thus substandard high fat ingredients slipped into his feed.
This is as disappointing as the method products being taken over by animal testing major company!
Please put my mind at rest as I want my dog to live !!
    Mortified
    Tracy Cox

    1. Hi Tracy,

We want Digby to be as happy and healthy as possible too! We’re continuing as a stand-alone business, run by our own management team. We won’t stop delivering the same great products and service that you and others love. We’ll still be based in dog-friendly Richmond with our blending rooms in Heathrow, London. Digby’s food will still be a blend of our own range of tasty kibbles, so he will continue to receive the same high quality meals with high quality ingredients and nutrition. Our treats will stay as delicious as ever too!

      Thanks,
      Carly

      1. I too have a Digby! And I’ve already posted on this thread when in horror, I read of the partnership with Purina. I was polite at first, but I’m reading these songsong-ish replies from Tails, and I do NOT think you understand the grave concerns of people who’ve gone through the trouble of researching dog food options and who are aware.
Purina/Nestle are the NRA of dog food. They will tip the balance in their favour at the end of the day, and Tails needs to understand how contradictory it is of them to partner with such a corrupt institution like it’s no big deal!
Give your clients a promise, a guarantee of standards, something to show you understand these concerns.
I’ll await something to this affect or will otherwise be cancelling my account with Tails.

        1. Hi Jenna,

We hear you – we know you want what’s best for your dog and I want to make sure your concerns are addressed. Although we’ve chosen an investment from Purina, we continue as an independent company. We continue to make our own decisions, on our own terms, creating your dog’s food with our own unique kibbles blended just for them.

We guarantee that the quality of our ingredients will stay at the same high standard we’ve always set ourselves. We chose this investment to help us achieve our goal of changing the world of pet food for good by providing every dog with the tailored diet they truly deserve.

          Jack

        2. bye bye have you ever thought that with all the mistakes that purina have made they have seen the success and popularity of tails and like them want to try an d change things for the better which of course would make a sound investment and hopefully repair there reputation

      2. The dogs treats will remain the same (for now) but our money will line the pockets of this disgusting animal testing, subsidising weapons, palm tree fields destroying company like Nestle’. An absolutely revolting choice ! ! !

  13. Our cats would be interested if you were to add to your range.
As a disabled person your dog food has been of great help to me.
Ted and stitch enjoy your food please do not change recipes
    Huskeys really fussy eaters
Ted lab cross eats every thing in sight.
Hope your staff are happy with this move.

    1. Hi Annette,

I’m happy to hear getting your monthly tails.com deliveries has worked so well for you! Ted’s and Stitch’s tailor-made food will still be a blend of our own range of tasty kibbles, so they will continue to receive the same high quality meals using the same great recipes and nutrition that they have been enjoying.
We are always looking to expand our range of products, like cat food, to benefit our customers and their pets, so we hope to add cat food to our options soon!

      Best wishes,
      Carly

  14. Brandy enjoyed your food but your prices are too high compared tp other makes (which Brandy still eats ) and being a pensioner I can get 3 12kg bags for the same price I was paying for a bag LESS than 10kg!! Thank you for your past service. Mo Kerr.

  15. Really disappointed that you have gone in partnership with purina they have such bad reviews with their food and making dogs very sick,
I will unfortunately now be cancelling my food with you ASAP and am sure many others will do the same

    1. Hi Sheree,

Thanks for getting in touch. While we have taken a significant investment from Purina we’re continuing as a stand-alone business, run by our own management team. We won’t stop delivering the same great products and service that you and others love. We’ll still be based in dog-friendly Richmond with our blending rooms in Heathrow, London.
This new relationship means we have the funding and resources to be able to continue on our mission of helping even more dogs lead happier and healthier lives!

      Best,
      Carly

    1. Hi Ian and Jasper,

Thanks for your encouragement and we hope you both are doing well!

      Best wishes,
      Carly

    1. Hi Scott,

Thanks for getting in touch, we’re happy to answer any questions you may have. Your dog’s food will still be a blend of our own range of tasty kibbles, so they will continue to receive the same high quality meals using the same nutrition and ingredients as usual. Since your dog’s food is tailor-made you will still not be able to get our products in the store. We’re continuing as a stand-alone business, run by our own management team. We won’t stop delivering the same great products and service that you and others love. We’ll still be based in dog-friendly Richmond with our blending rooms in Heathrow, London.

      Best wishes,
      Carly

  16. Bob loves the tails brand and knows when the box arrives that he’s getting his treats.Keep up the great work making Bob a healtier dog. Many thanks..Eddie

  17. Merlin is very pleased to hear of your new collaboration. His brother and sister Pierre & Yasmin want to know when you will be delivery cat food.

    1. Thanks Merlin! We don’t have any immediate plans to provide something similar for our feline friends, but it’s something we’re likely to look into in future.

      Jack from tails.com

  18. I am right in thinking that the term investment that you use in your communique means that you are now owned by Purina as the parent company?

Am I also right in thinking that at some point Purina will push their own products through Tails as a “centralisation exercise”?

Worked for large corporations and have seen this sort of alignment in the past so was interested in your view on this

    1. Hi Freddie,

The investment is not about a new owner – it’s about replacing our short-term investors with a long-term one. We will continue to be an independent company, making our own decisions. If you’re wondering whether you’ll find Purina products in your blend, the answer is no. Our unique and custom-made kibbles are at the absolute core of what we do: they’ve made us who we are and they’re the reason we’ve gotten this far.

      Best,
      Sage

  19. I moved from Purina to you I can buy a large bag of Betta Chicken and rice from my pet shop for £25.00
why should I pay you more for the same .

    1. Hi William,

You don’t have to worry about your dog’s food changing, because the answer is – it won’t. We aren’t changing our recipes or ingredients, so your dog can continue enjoying his unique, tailor-made blend every month as usual.

      Best,
      Sage

  20. I’d stayed away from the big brands simply due to nutrition value and cost. I hope this decision will not impact my dogs health or my wallet. I understand money making deals are important for the company to expand but please don’t let the standards slip. Or I and many others may vote with their paws.

    Kind regards

    Richard

    1. Hi Richard,

Our quality will certainly not be affected by this investment. We will continue to be an independent company, making our own decisions. The quality of your dog’s food has always been most important to us – and that will never change.

      best,
      Sage

  21. I’m an old fashioned type and choise your company for its “homely” Ethos regarding people and their dogs. I’m sorry you have chosen to join the “big boys”but I wish you all well and hope your statement about no change to product and price can be sustained.

    1. Hi Tony,

Purina will be a majority stake holder in our company. The move is from a group of short-term investors on our board, to one long-term investor on our board. We’re still being run by our own management team, and the team here at tails.com are all shareholders.

      Best,
      Sage

  22. When I first saw the company I recognised straight away that it was a winning company. The service and set up for customer care as well as the strong message of actually caring about our pets. It comes as no surprise that this type of investment would be made to make a great brand even better.
Well done to the entire team. I wish you all well in your new venture.

    1. Thanks David, we really appreciate your support and we’re looking forward to the future.

      Karri

    1. Hi Susan, it’s great that your dog is loving their blend. Thank you for your continued support.

      Karri

  23. Just a thought about packaging. The wet food coming in the new boxes sometimes means the cartons are bent out of shape. We much preferred the cardboard trays (even though they weren’t as glamorous).

    1. Hi Rachel, we’re always working to improve the service and products you receive so we really appreciate your feedback on this. Feel free to send us an email to hello@tails.com with any questions or concerns you may have- we’ll be happy to help.

      Karri

    1. Hi Lissa,

We’re really sorry to hear that. You won’t find Purina products in your order or blend and we’ll still be an independent company. The quality of your dog’s blend won’t change and we’ll still keep doing exactly what we do.

      Jack

    1. Hi Mark and Sasha,

Thanks for your support! The blends aren’t changing – your dog’s health and happiness still comes first. Thanks for the feedback on our packaging, I’ll pass it on the rest of my team so we can look into this.

      Best,
      Sage

  24. Thank you. The question that is not answered is: what will you do with the investment? Reward the Management team? improve value for your customers? Become more efficient with better production/it platforms? If none of these, why take the money? Debt must be repaid, one way or the other…
A fine feel good message devoid of detail and direction.

    1. Hi Rolf,

The investment will help us do many things! For one, we’ll now be able to reach more dogs quicker. We’ve always wanted more dogs to experience the food we can provide, and it looks like this will be happening even sooner.

      Best,
      Sage

  25. Lana is doing very well on her food ,but now I have to crush it up for her,as she does nt seem able to take the bigger bits anymore ,her teeth are fine but she seems as though she has a sensitive mouth ,other than that she is doing well with all her other problems , thankyou for being there for me .

  26. Since adopting our 9 year old Airedale last June and putting him on food from tails.com he has come on so well. No stomach upsets, no itchy skin and he is bounding in energy. Thanks so much, so glad we discovered you! Rudi sends his thanks too!

  27. Ok that’s great news but will you now send to France? Teddy and Mabel wait with baited breath!!! If the answer is yes I’ll be ordering forthwith!!
    Bisous
Teddy and Mabel Hickson and their mum Jo

  28. Hi to everybody at tails, would to say a massive thank you for the wonderful food and fab service, my boy max loves your food he always cleans the bowl, thanks for everything Stephanie brackstone

  29. Hi
Just wanted to wish you well on your new venture.
If not looked back since joining you and Rio is much better.
Many thanx and keep up the great work.

    1. Hi Julie and Rio,

Thanks so much for your continued support! Can’t wait to have you guys around for many more years to come.

      Best,
      Sage

  30. Thank you for the update, in my opinion I don’t think any changes would necessary as it makes your product unique to tails.com and I am more than happy with what Winston receives

    1. Hi Darren,

Not to worry, our products won’t change. We’re still a unique, standalone company that happily feeds Winston his tailor-made blend every month.

      Best,
      Sage

  31. This is disappointing Purina is owned by nestle which I boycott therefore I will be discontinuing my subscription to tales pet food

    1. Hi Wendy,

Archie’s tailor-made blend will remain the same, and we’ll continue delivering his orders on a monthly basis. Our new relationship with Purina will not affect any decisions we make on our prices either.

      Sage

  32. Congratulations & all the best of luck for the future, as long as everything stays the same for my wee Angel then we will not be going anywhere else & thank you for your kibble it has made a huge difference.
    Best regards
    Kellie oneill

    1. Hi Kellie,

We appreciate the continued support from you and Angel. Let her know that nothing will change to her food and she can continue to look forward to the same tailored blend as usual.

      Best,
      Sage

  33. Thank you for this info .it’s nice to know you won’t change anything something too many people are quick to do but I’m glad you won’t .Wishing you continued success from me and Alfie 😉🐕🐾

  34. Congratulations Tails.com, more power to your elbow. But my boy Buddy is the fussiest little dog in the world. He likes the kibble when he is out with his pals at the pub, but will NOT eat anything from his bowl. Obviously we can’t take him to the pub twice a day to feed him, so I wondered if you had any small sample bags of different blends for me to try him on. I have ordered from you in the past, and would love to start ordering again, because I truly believe this is the best dog food. If I could try him on a couple of different tastes – he loves chicken, lamb, beef, duck, but is now overweight because I have to cook him steak or chicken every day…..! HELP!

  35. The bags are too big and not easy to store. We use to get two bags but now it’s one BIG bag it’s just more difficult and heavy to drag out each time.

    Thank you 🙂
    Hayley x

  36. I’m not sure that I will continue with Tails following your tie up Purina as I think that the Purina brand is not great and have heard/seen that they dont have the best ingredients in the produce

    1. Hey Sam

We are sorry to hear that. Please rest assured that our change in investor will not change the quality of our food – we will always put nutrition first. The high standards we’ve always used to create our food will remain the same and we will always ensure your dog’s recipe continues to match their changing needs.

      All the best,

      Emily

  37. Ok that’s nice to know she is always hungry on me meaning to get in touch with you she never used to steal and now she’s trying to get hold of food she still in from the cats when they’re eating she never used to so I don’t know if I need to increase the food she still has a treat but I’ve cut them down because she doesn’t need as many I don’t think this is actually the comment you meant but it just saves me getting in touch with you I’m trying to get a just on the biscuits but she won’t have any of it and the amount and meet she has is very little it’s about a teaspoonful and that’s about it very little but anyway it’s nice to hear that it’s been improved I just can’t wait for you to start doing cat food every brilliant specially for seniors and for cats that got cystitis so if you can try and work that out that would be brilliant ok have a nice week and give your dog a nice big hug for me sounds absolutely adorable thank you Judy clucas

    1. Hey Judy

Thanks for your reply (especially the hugs), please can you drop our team a line on hello@tails.com so we can look into this in more detail for you and ensure she is getting what she needs 🙂 As for cat food, we would absolutely love to do this in the future so stay tuned for that.

      All the best,

      Emily

    1. Hey Pamela

We certainly do not condone testing on animals and neither do Purina. Their feeding studies see which foods animals prefer but nothing invasive of harmful takes place. We are very sorry to see you go but we understand that these kind of things can be very personal decision and if you ever wanted to come back to tails we’d love to see you.

      All the best,

      Emily

  38. I am do pleased to hear that tails and Purina are working together to make paddys food special. He loves his food and cleans his bowl every time. He is such a happy boy and always full of energy he loves his little life. Thank you so much . From Paddy and Heather. Xx

    1. That’s great news Heather. We’re really glad to have you and Paddy as customers and please be sure to keep us updated with how he’s getting on!

      Thanks,
      Jack

    1. Hi Kim,

Exactly that. We’re still being run by our own management team and will continue to do what we’ve always done – providing dogs across the UK with tailored nutrition.

      Thanks,
      Jack

  39. Not sure if I will continue with your food now as one of the reasons I came over to you is to ensure good quality. Purine whilst popular is not associated with top quality. Somewhere in between. Sounds to me like a money reason for the collaboration. 😔

    1. Hi Sharon,

We really hope you’ll reconsider. The investment from Purina doesn’t change the quality of our food or the decisions we make. We guarantee that the quality of your dog’s food will be at the same high standard it has always been.

      Jack

  40. Purina is obviously a very company in the pet world and what I like about Tails is the personal touch, the ease of getting in touch etc.
As this will all stay the same, I wish you the very best in your future plans.

    1. Hi Hanife,

Nothing changes with this investment – you’ll still be getting that personal touch you love. Thanks for your support, we really appreciate it.

      Jack

  41. I do hope that are are able to continue as you have been without pressure to change from this new big corporate investment.
I have been extremely happy with my dogs’ diet since I discovered Tails but I do have concerns about your new connection with Purina, a company I do have some reservations about
I will be watching this new state of affairs closely

    1. Hi Deborah,

It’s such fantastic news that you’re really happy with your dog’s tailor-made blend. I wanted to assure you that with this news, nothing changes – we’ll continue providing the high-quality products that your dog thrives on and this will always be the case.

      Thanks,
      Jack

  42. Sorry not replying to your news but I have been thinking my golden retriever Rio is 8 years old this year July – should he require food for senior dogs ? If so how do I go about changing what he has now
    Thanks

    1. Hey Clare,

We’d love to take a look at Rio’s blend and chat through everything in more detail. Can you send us an email to hello@tails.com?

Look forward to hearing from you.
      Jack

  43. 44. Thank you for your email today. As long as any price increase by you. We are inform of it. Before you send my dog food out Bailey will stay with you.
Once again thank you for the info
    Regards
    Bailey

    1. Hi John,

Of course, we’ll always be sure to communicate any changes with our customers. We work to avoid passing any increased costs, such as for ingredients and wages, on to any of our customers. The new relationship with Purina will not change our pricing decisions.

      Thanks,
      Jack

  45. Packaging: you changed to boxes rather than the cheap formed cardboard trays – this coincided with the last price increase.
We were asked our opinion back then – about the new fancy boxes – which we personally hate. They are a faff to get in and out of, it’s not as easy to stack our supplies and retain easy access. They are cumbersome. Why haven’t you resorted to the old simple trays and passed the saving back to us?

    1. Hi Andy,

We updated the packaging of our wet food trays to make sure that they arrive in the best possible condition. Over the past year, as our costs of delivery, ingredients and wages have gone up, we have increased the price of some of our ranges. We actively work to prevent increased costs being passed on to our customers and will always continue to do so.

We’d love to discuss this further with you so can you send an email to hello@tails.com?

      Thanks,
      Jack

  46. Mars did the same to other pet food years ago. They slowly introduced sugars, colours and cheap protein based extracts. I really do hope Purina/Nestle do not do the same.

    1. Hi Rory,

The high quality of our custom and unique kibbles are fundamental to what we do. We guarantee that there won’t be any changes to the quality of your dog’s food.

      Jack

  47. Harry is doing well on his food lots energy and his coat is so shiny that food is doing well for Harry thank you

    1. That’s lovely to hear, Denise! We’re so happy Harry is doing well on the food.

      Best,
      Sage

    1. Hi Katrina,

No set time frame for cat food but it’s definitely on our radar for the future!

      Jack

  48. I am very happy with the food you are sending me for Meg. With my next lot of food you send me will you please add 2 packs of treats and with all delivery’s of food you send me . Thank you very much.
    Very happy. Graham Wright.

    1. Hi Graham,

We’ll be happy to help get this sorted for you and Meg. We don’t want any of your details on a public space so can you send us an email to hello@tails.com?

      Thanks,
      Jack

  49. Our dog de bordeax has had health problems since she was a pup, she was on high doses of steroids to treat severe stomach problems. We had to try and find foods that didnt cause terrible d&v, but she still needed the steroids. This led to her developing horrible reactions to them, we thought it was the end of the road, then a friend recommended Tails, a year on you wouldnt think she was the same dog, her coat had grown back and its shiney and sleek, she has more energy now than she ever had and, although shes not off the steroids completely, its such a low dose the reactions have gone! Tuela is now nearly 7 years old which is considered a grand old age for her breed, so thank you Tails for helping us give Tuela the quality of life she deserves 😊

    1. Hi Linda, it’s so great to hear that Tuela is doing so well on her blend and that you’ve seen such positive changes. Thank you for keeping us updated on her progress.

      Karri

  50. Does teaming up with Purina mean you’ll start cat food services too as I have both a dog and a cat and if I could get both of their food via tails I definitely would as I’m sure many other people would because of how reliable and healthy tails food is!
If not, this is something you should seriously consider as a company, if you don’t, I might!! 😂

    1. Hey Paige, this is certainly something we’re looking to provide in the future- watch this space!

      Karri

    1. Hi Michael,

It’s business as usual for us at tails.com. We’re continuing to provide your dog and many others with the tailored nutrition they love.

      Jack

  51. Thank you for this reassuring information. As Pixie is thriving on her tailor-made diet I would be reluctant to make changes.

    1. Don’t worry about any changes, Pauline. Pixie can continue loving her usual blend just the same as always!

      Best,
      Sage

  52. I love the service I get from tails.com, Bob loves the food and when he was diagnosed with fanconi syndrome and emailed regards to altering his diet your team where an amazing support to me and Bob for that i am ever grateful. I have and will continue to recommend you to every dog owner that I know. Keep up the amazing work. Thankyou

    1. Hi Christine, it’s great to hear that Bob is doing so well- thank you for keeping us updated. We really appreciate your continued support, give Bob a big hug from us.

      Karri

  53. Trust you continue to make and blend the food that has WILL looking for his meals and keeping him fit and healthy ( with the aid of his daily walks ), and there is no need to change your packaging as it is fit for purpose without being excessive.

    1. Hi Arthur,

Of course, we won’t be changing Will’s food or his packaging so you can rest assured he’ll be remaining as fit and healthy as always.

      Jack

  54. Thank you for informing us of the financial changes to the company. We look forward to maintaining the happy & satisfactory relationship we currently have with ‘tails.com’.
    Kind regards
    Suzie Litton-Wood & Skyeblue 🐾

    1. You’re very welcome, Suzie! As always, our customers and their dogs come first. We’re so happy to have you and Skyeblue with us.

      Best,
      Sage

    1. Hi Caroline, no you’ll still see the same familiar Tails.com logo on your regular monthly delivery.

      Karri

  55. Do you currently contribute in any way to animal experiments at the moment as I believe Purina do. Where do you stand on the issue of testing your foods by using animal experiments.
    Regards
    Christine

    1. Hi Christine

Please rest assured that we do not contribute to any animal experiments and never intend to do so either.

      All the best,

      Emily

  56. That’s sounds like you have the best of both worlds still your own “man” but with big business backing nice one congrats and continue with the brill work 😊🐶

  57. Hi I have just read your news! I am a little bit concerned that Purina is investing in tails.com and sincerely hope that none of their products (or by-products should I say) will in anyway be used by your company. Could you please re-assure me that it is not going to be the case? Their products are not good at all for any animals, and they test their ingredients on lab animals too. Thank you.

    1. Hey Cecile

Thank you for getting in touch. Please rest assured that you will not find Purina products in your blend. Our kibbles are at the very core of what we do and we will continue to use them exclusively. We always put nutrition first and with the change in investor this will not change, especially when it comes to the quality of our food or the decisions we make. We guarantee we’ll still hold ourselves to the same standards we’ve always used to create our food. We’ve always made sure your dog’s recipe matches their changing needs, and we’ll continue to do so. And we guarantee the quality of our ingredients will stay the same.

      All the best,

      Emily

  58. Thank you for keeping me up to date with your good news. Will you add new products to offer such as worming tablets and flea spray for our dogs.

  59. To be honest I’m not or my dog isn’t a fan of any purina pet foods, I will stay with tails for now but if there’s any change in the quality we are off. Purina to me is just a commercial juggernaut in it for the money and not the quality. Every product I tried from them caused griff issues that’s why I came to tails. So il be keeping the party hat off for the time being.

    1. Hi Bleddyn

Thanks for getting in touch and sorry to hear the party hat has been popped to one side. The quality of our food will remain the same and our change in investor will not change this – nutrition is always something we will put first. We can also guarantee that the same standards we’ve always used to create our food will remain unaffected. We’ve always made sure Griff’s recipe matches his changing needs, and we’ll continue to do so. And we guarantee the quality of our ingredients will stay the same.

      Hugs for Griff,

      Emily

  60. Hi Tails.com,
Thank you for letting me know about your changes, when l first got Ozzy as a puppy l tried so many different dog foods and he could not settle it upset his stomach or he did not like it so when l put him on Tails.com he loved it from day one so l would like to thank you so much for that the only thing l would say that you try to send the food to quickly, but please don’t change anything with your company you are doing a fantastic job,
    Many thanks
Kevin Higgins Ozzy our cat Ginny is waiting for you to make her food as well

    1. Hi Kevin, it’s great to hear that Ozzy is loving his blend! Don’t worry- this investment won’t change what we do, we’ll still send Ozzy his favorite food every month.

We really appreciate your support, tell Ginny to watch this space- we’re thinking about her as well.

      Karri

  61. That’s great for you guys, well done! Inevitably, however, there will eventually be changes; Purina isn’t known for good quality dog food. Will you be letting us know when this happens?
    Many thanks
    Carole Harris

    1. Thanks for the support Carole,

The quality of our food will remain the same and we will always stick to the same high standards that have created the blends your dog knows and loves. Since we remain an independent company, we will continue making the decisions about our food. As your dogs blend evolves according to their needs we will update you so you can rest assured your dog is getting the optimum nutrition for their health.

      All the best,

      Emily

  62. Im not overly impressed with this partnership. Purina foods don’t have the best reputation and I buy from tails for quality which I am now concerned I wont be getting.

    1. Hey Rebecca

We’re sorry to hear this. The quality of our food will remain the same and we can guarantee the high standards that have created the blend your dog is enjoying will also remain unaffected. We will always put pets nutrition first and foremost 🙂

      All the best,

      Emily

  63. I’ve not been able to email the above address as it says page not found.

I’m concerned with this merger as Purina haven’t the best reputation within vets and the dog world.

  64. I’m concerned it seems you are merging (?) with Purina..
I work voluntarily alongside UK dog, and cat rescues, most if not all will not touch their product Bakers because of the artificial colourings and addiditves, can I have your assurances none of your products will go down that road and introduce them into your products?
I look forward to your reply.

    1. Hi Gill

We have decided to take an investment from Purina not merge with them. You can rest assured that the quality of our ingredients will not change and we will continue to produce our unique blends to the same high standards as always.

      All the best

      Emily

  65. I am disappointed to hear that you are now associated with low-end brand Purina, this is a company that I now avoid like the plague when it comes to feeding my pup.
By volume Purina is one of the worst offenders in the industry, maintaining uniform mediocrity among their wide range of products and they feature 4 times in the worst 10 dog foods in the UK.
After finally finding a dog food with Tails (plus recommending you to friends) that my Cockerpoo enjoys and that doesn’t upset his sensitive tummy, I am really hoping that on reading your Q&A’s that the high quality standard with Tails will still remain.

    1. Hi Heather

That’s great to hear your Cockerpoo is loving his food, sensitive tummies are always tricky and we are so glad to have helped. The investment from Purina will not change the quality of his food and we will still be holding ourselves to the same high standards that created the blend your dog loves. That is awesome you have been recommending us to your friends too, thank you for helping spread the word.

      All the best,

      Emily

  66. If there is any way in which the basic cost could be reduced, it would be very much appreciated by most, if not all, of your customers.

    1. Hey Diana

So great to hear Harvey is loving his food and doing so well on it too! Be sure to give him a hug from us.

      Best,

      Emily

  67. I am still interested to continue buying Elbee kibble with you.
    Thanks for the update. X
I would love some free samples of any treats that will suit Elbee digestive system.

    1. Hi Debe

Fantastic to hear this and thank you for the support. Can you drop our team a line via hello@tails.com and we shall see what we can do regarding treats for Elbee.

      Best,

      Emily

    1. Glad nothing will change Toby and Maisie are well on your kibble. Before they had really delicate tummies

      Marsh

    2. I’m so happy we were able to answer all of your questions. Thanks for your support – we’re so happy to you, Toby and Maisie with us for the long run!

      Sage

  68. Not sure about the your sell out to Purina, but so long as nothing changes re Prudence’s food quality or delivery I’m ok. Good point made by another customer. Would you consider making cat food? I have two cats so would welcome similar quality products for them.

    1. Hi Sally,

Please rest assured the investment from Purina will not affect the quality or delivery of Prudence’s food. We guarantee we’ll still be holding ourselves to the same high standards that have created the blend that Prudence loves. As for cat food, it is something we would love to do in the future so stay tuned.

      All the best,

      Emily

    1. Hi Sophie, this investment from Purina does not change the quality of our food – our unique and custom-made kibbles are at the absolute core of what we do. We can guarantee that the quality of our ingredients will stay the same.

      Karri

  69. If you’re going to continue as before, operating independently, I fail to see what in it for Purina. I worry they are aiming to gain control by stealth. I left Purim because I didn’t like their blend decisions.. ie, padding feed with grain that has no nutritional value.
How can this be good for both parties at the same time as maintaining full integrity of nutrition for our dogs?

    1. Hi Paul

Purina has recognised what we’ve achieved in four years, see its potential for the future, and wants to nurture it, not change it. We chose this investment to help us do more of what we do best: high-quality nutrition, tailor-made for every tails.com dog. Our commitment to providing tailored nutrition is as strong as it was the day we were founded and the quality of our ingredients and high standards we hold will remain the same.

      All the best

      Emily

  70. I’m SO disappointed to hear about this investment from Purina. They are owned by Nestle, one of the biggest offenders for animal testing and unethical operation. I honestly cannot continue my subscription knowing you are now owned/partially owned/funded by Nestle.

    1. Hi Sarah,

I’m really sad to hear you’re disappointed. This isn’t how we see our new partners. Purina has seen what we’ve been able to do over the past four years and they want to help us reach even more dogs. We’re still the same company, providing the same products and service you know and love.

      Best,
      Sage

  71. What a shame , that was so nice about you , that you were individual and gave such a good personal service which will no doubt change over the next couple of years …..

    1. Hi King,

I’m sorry to hear this. We want you to be assured that our recipes, ingredients and blends will stay the same. Your dog is still our number one priority – and that will never change.

      Sage

  72. Thank you for keeping me updated with what is going on it’s always good to know, Bella enjoys the food that you send, thanks again, Annabel, Bellas newly adopted mum. X

    1. Hi Annabel,

Congrats on the recent adoption! Bella is one lucky little pup. Thanks for your continued support.

      Best,
      Sage

  73. Will you be supplying wet food for dogs with allergies? The dry food got too boring for my little dog so I had to stop ordering it.

    1. Hi Suzanne,

We’re always looking to expand our products, and in the meantime we could look at changing up the flavour in your dog’s dry food blend to help get his taste buds going again. If you’re interested, just send us an email at hello@tails.com and we’ll get started.

      Best,
      Sage

  74. Congratulations on the investment. Just hope that you are able to maintain the individuality of tails.com with its personalised service and excellent quality of the products.

    1. Hi Karen,

Thanks so much for your support! I can confirm we will remain a standalone company delivering the products and service you know and love.

      Sage

  75. Congratulations on your collaboration with Purina. The proof of the pudding ( or dogfood in this case) as they say, will be in the eating. You can rely on my loyal custom as long as your products retain their integrity, you deliver the excellent service, and my dog continues to want to eat them. Party hats all round then!! ~ Alison and LuLu

    1. Thanks for your positive feedback Alison! We look forward to proving you right and delivering the same great food lulu loves.

      Best,
      sage

  76. Why!!Excellent product. Not sure this is good news for our dogs.
Concerned you have taken the ‘silver shilling’ and will go down market!

    1. Hi Gail,

I’m sorry you feel this way. We don’t see our new partners that way, and our unwavering commitment to dogs’ well-being and health remains the same as it always has.

      Best,
      Sage

  77. I’m very happy with tails.com food my dogs more happy and got more energy.so just like to say thanks keep up the good work

  78. I do hope you do stay the same. I much prefer a bespoke service than buying a ‘multi-national’ one size fits all product.

  79. This is both good news and not-so-good. Good news for tails.com as you’ll have the security of Purina behind you. But I worry about the quality and value for money being compromised.

    1. Hi Elspeth,

Don’t be worried. The investment from Purina does not change the quality of our food or the decisions we make. Our custom made kibbles and bespoke blends are what make us who we are – and that will never change.

      Sage

  80. As I asked earlier I want to know if you have been taken over by Purina, I have been with tails for a long time & it is a simple question

    1. Hi Kim,

The move is from a group of short-term investors on our board, to one long-term investor (Purina) on our board. We’re still being run by our own management team, and the team here at tails.com are all proud shareholders.

      I hope this helps,
      Sage

  81. Thanks for the info, we’re not keen on purina food so we’re very glad your staying the same good luck with the new venture
    Lee-anne and loulou xxx

    1. Thanks for your support Lee-anne! You don’t have to worry about Loulou’s blend changing – we’re going to keep it the same as always.

      Best,
      Sage

  82. My dog is sleeping so I had an opportunity to read this information. On a day when Sainsburys announce a merger with Asda, I think investments such as yours are inevitable. I hope you are able to maintain your independence in the long term.
I will continue to use the tails dog food, which Zoe loves.
    Good luck

    1. Hi Helen,

I’m thrilled to hear Zoe loves her food – and I can promise we won’t change that. We’re so lucky to have you guys with us and look forward to many more great years together.

      Best,
      Sage

  83. How much in put will purina have with the ingredients of the product. Purina is a large company and will put shareholders needs before customers and their pets needs? So to purina it’s alway going to be the bottom line and cost impacts profit which effects shareholders returns. This in turn usually means mediocre ingredients. Can you guarantee that there will be no changes to the quality of the ingredients used?

    Many regards Cate and Molly

    1. Hi Cate and Molly

Thank you for getting in touch. Despite taking investment from Purina, we continue to make our own decisions about our food – your dog’s food. The move is from a group of investors on our board, who helped us get up and running, to one long-term investor on our board that can help us do more of what we do best. We’re still run by our own management team, and the team here at tails.com are all proud shareholders. As for the quality of the food, this will remain the same as we continue to put your pets nutrition first 🙂

      All the best,

      Emily

    1. Hi Jan

We do not do any harmful testing on animals and neither do Purina. Their feeding studies see which foods animals prefer but nothing invasive of harmful takes place.

      All the best,

      Emily

  84. I’m concerned with adding a new variety / blend in with my dogs food. Will it still be labelled with food contents or highlighted with new ingredients used?

    1. Hi Susan,

Not to worry, we’ll continue to use our own unique, custom kibbles in your dog’s blend so you can be sure they’re still receiving their optimum nutrition each day. You’ll always be able to take a look at the complete breakdown of your dog’s food from your account and their profile.

This can be done by clicking ‘View and edit profile’ on your main account page followed by ‘View feeding plan’.

      Thanks,
      Jack

    2. Hi Susan

We completely understand your concern, please rest assured that the quality of our ingredients will not change and we will not be adding in any Purina products. We always made sure your dog’s recipe matches their changing needs, and we’ll continue to do so.

      All the best

      Emily

  85. Interesting that you have managed to be a stand-alone company still. Purina is a well respected brand. Best wishes for the new development.

  86. We, Emilie and Rosie are so pleased to know our meals will be unchanged and wish you best wishes for the exciting future..Mum says just one thing….she would find it useful to know, when you tell us our parcel is being prepared…how much will be debited from her account.x

    1. Hi Emilie and Rosie,

Thank you! That really means a lot to us. We’d always want your mum to know the monthly price of your orders, so she can find this out by clicking the ‘deliveries’ tab at the top of her page when logged in. If she then clicks ‘View details’ on the order in question, she can see a full breakdown of the order and the price.

      Jack

    1. Hi Leo, Kharen and Pascoe

Please rest assured we will not be adding in Purina products to Pascoe’s food. We will continue to use our own kibbles exclusively. When we created tails.com, we had to custom-make our own kibbles since we couldn’t find any that were up to scratch. These kibbles are key to what we do as they’re the only way we can create truly tailor-made nutrition for dogs across the UK.

We can also guarantee we will not be changing the quality of our food and we still hold ourselves to the same standards we’ve always had. Pascoe’s recipe will continue to match to his changing needs as nutrition and health is at the very heart of what we do 🙂

      All the best,

      Emily

  87. I dont want anything to change as my Spring pup Jake just loves his new food and I would hate anything to change so that it stops him from enjoying it.

    1. Hi Jean,

Please don’t worry – nothing will change to Jake’s food. He’s clearly been loving it for this long and we don’t have any intention of changing that. We look forward to many more years together.

      Best,
      Sage

  88. I am pleaseed that tails.com continues to do well however, I stopped purchasing any dog foods made by Purina years ago (I used to feed my dog Bakers – and established the undesirable ingredients on an independent broadcast). I try to stay well informed and make mindful decisions on what I buy for my family. I will have to cancel my subscription and go elsewhere for my dogs requirements as even though you say nothing will change, inevitably it always does.
I’ve enjoyed your service as have my fur babies and I wish you luck.

    1. Hi Emma

Thank you for your well wishes but we’re sorry you feel that way, whilst we guarantee the quality of our ingredients will not change we understand that these kind of things can be very personal decision and if you ever wanted to come back to tails we’d love to see you and your fur babies again.

      All the best

      Emily

    1. Thanks so much Debbie! It means the world for us to hear this from you.

Give a hug to Beethoven from us.

      Best,
      Sage

    1. Hi Sue, yes. We can assure you that the quality of our ingredients will continue to be to the high standard they’ve always been.

      Karri

  89. Congratulations on the new merger! Myself and Hugo love everything about tails and hope nothing will be affected by this merger. It’s always important to grow a business structure, especially a successful one. So we both wish all the fabulous team at tails continued success and plan to support you along the way! 😊 🐶

    1. Thank you for the support Tanya 🙂 Fantastic to hear Hugo is loving his food too. You can both rest assured to know that our change in investor will not affect the quality of his food and we will hold ourselves to the same high standards as always.

      All the best,

      Emily

    1. Hi Kendra

      Thanks for getting in touch,

Nutrition is always at the forefront of everything we do. The quality of our ingredients will remain the same and we will continue to exclusively use our own kibbles in your dogs blend 🙂

      All the best

      Emily

  90. It’s a sellout. Yet again. They’ll start putting crap in our pet’s food before you know it. It’ll be buried in a ‘change to T’s and C’s’ that most people won’t bother reading in a year or so. That’s the vulture capitalist way! I say let’s get on social media and shut this thing down!

    1. Hi Mark,

We can assure you that’s not the case. You won’t be finding any Purina products in your orders nor will we be changing from using our own unique kibbles in any of your dogs’ blends.

      Jack

  91. Love the new packaging for Henry’s wet food, much less waste. Ellie and Henry both have much better weight management since changing to Tails. Ever considered doing cat food too?

    1. Hey Jo,

Such lovely news about Ellie and Henry! We’ve not got any immediate plans for our feline friends but we’ll never say never…

      Jack

    1. Thanks for the support Jennifer! We’re so pleased to hear you and Fern are happy about our news.

      Best,
      Sage

  92. Well done wish yous every luck in the future chico loves his food and I know I am giving him the best .thank you x

    1. Thanks so much Alice. We’re so happy to have you and Chico with us for the long-haul.

      Best,
      Sage

  93. This is interesting to me because I’ve gone out of my way to avoid Purina and their competitors.

For a long time pet food was unregulated, and some of the tactics and ingredients these big pet food companies got away with were reprehensible. It’s still not completely on the up and up.

So either purina has changed? Which is hard to imagine, or have they just paid the right price to be involved with a bespoke, natural brand?

Many people are aware of the kick back the vets receive from companies like Purina, much like a pharma company does with a doctor who prescribe their drugs.

Digby loves his Tails mixture. I’ve always hoped it was as ‘pure’ as you have indicated but it’s always subject to what it on your packaging as there is no way to really verify it.

I sound like a crazy consumer, but I’m half American and the WORST nightmare for many people striving to give their dogs the best they possibly can, is to hear a company like Purina is involved.

    Sincerely,

    J. Treat

  94. I’ve heard bad things about the quality of ingredients in Purina, so I want to be absolutely sure that my dogs food will not change. We buy Tails.com because of the attention and care that goes into the ingredients and food processes. If the investment is about increasing production or cost control, I will be wary of continuing with it. I don’t want mass produced food with dubious quality meat or vegetables.

    1. Hi Kath

Quality and nutrition is absolutely paramount to us at Tails and this will not be compromised with the change in our investors. Purina have simply seen what we do, been incredibly impressed and want to support us on our mission to change the world of pet food for good. We will not be using any Purina products and we guarantee we’ll still hold ourselves to the same standards we’ve always used to create our food. We’ve always made sure your dog’s recipe matches their changing needs, and we’ll continue to do so. And we guarantee the quality of our ingredients will stay the same, no dubious meat or veggies hiding in there at all.

      All the best

      Emily

  95. Very disappointed to learn of this association. I don’t understand how joining up with Purina will NOT make a difference to the formula you already use. When I researched food for Tobi my rescue border collie, Purina was way down my list. 3 years later it still does not fare very well judging by recent reviews. Unless you can reassure me otherwise, I will be cancelling my order with you and going elsewhere. Very disappointed.

    1. Hi Carol

Whilst we’ve changed our investors, we continue to make our own decisions about our food – Tobi’s food. Only our unique tails.com kibbles have been specially developed to work with our game-changing customised feeding system. So, if you’re wondering whether you’ll find Purina products in Tobi’s blend, the answer is no. When we first started tails.com, we couldn’t find any kibbles that did what we needed them to do. Our unique, custom-made kibbles are at the absolute core of what we do: they’re the only way we can create truly tailor-made nutrition for dogs across the UK. We will continue to use them exclusively. What’s more is that the quality will remain the same as will the same high standards we’ve always used to create Tobi’s food.

      All the best,

      Emily

  96. Thanks for the information. Please keep your individuality. That’s why we love Tails.com. you have our Pets welfare at heart where as a big producer seem to be more interested in their own welfare.

    1. Thank you so much for the support Dily and yes, absolutely. Despite the change in investor will not change the quality of our food or the decisions we make – nutrition and animal welfare will always be at the very heart of what we do.

      All the best,

      Emily

  97. Hope the move is good for your business but always sad when big companies muscle in on smaller innovative companies that have excellent ideas and service. Best wishes
    Barbara Day

    1. Hi Barbara,

Thanks for your well-wishes, but please don’t be concerned. We’re all very excited about our new partners as this will help us feed more dogs the same nutrition that your dog already loves. Our high quality ingredients and personalised service won’t change either.

      Best,
      Sage

  98. Isn’t Purina owned or part of Nestle? I have just read this about Nestle and it’s associated scandals
“Nestle has shown, time and time again, that they have few ethics and little interest in a real social responsibility. From promoting their formula to uneducated African mothers to lying about production dates, to using water without a permit to dealing with ruthless dictators, they have often gone the extra mile to make an extra profit – even when the extra mile meant hurting people, directly or indirectly.”
I’d be interested in your views

    1. Hi Tina

      Thanks for getting in touch,

Yes Purina is part of Nestlé. Reading your comments we do not see our partner in this way. If you have any specific questions regarding Nestlé’s operations and code of conduct please do get in touch with Nestlé directly here https://www.nestle.com/ask-nestle

      Best wishes,

      Emily

  99. Oh dear- poor you, Purina….this is going to make me think twice about where I source my dogs food from now on…
I’ve always tried my hardest to avoid the big brands, of which you have become affiliated, from the horror stories we are lead to believe about food quality and nutritional quality from them.
I’m disappointed as I find your service very convenient, but may have to go back to our old food for our mutt.

    1. Hi Janine,

I’m sorry to hear you feel this way and we certainly wouldn’t want to lose you over this news. I can assure you that our commitment to making sure your dog is as healthy and happy as possible is as strong as it always has been. Our custom made kibbles are a huge part of everything we do and we’ll continue using them – they’re the only kibbles capable of providing truly tailored nutrition. We can guarantee that the high quality of your dog’s food will stay exactly the same.

      Jack

  100. Don’t Purina/ parent company test on animals? I am concerned about the ethics of this company you are associating with.

    1. Hi Maria,

Our aim is to change the lives of dogs for the better, and we’re certainly not into animal testing – Purina aren’t either. Our values as a company remain the exact same.

      Always,
      Sage

  101. Well done for expanding I have always liked Purina foods for our dogs over the years. In Fact until you came into our lives that was what food we gave to our dogs.Keep up the good work,Ella loves your food and we wouldn’t want to change it.

    1. Hi Denise,

That’s so great to hear. I’m glad you and Ella are as excited about our news as we are!

      Best,
      Sage

  102. This is great news for everyone.
    Let’s
    Hope no real changes
Or dietary changes for hixxy. When are you bringing pet food out?

  103. I have been using tails for Nim since he was old enough he is now 3yrs old and in rude good health. Everyone that meets him comments on his shiny coat and fitness. Prior to him starting on tails his puppy food was purina recommended by our vet so this for me is good news as purina would be the food of choice if I feeding him tails.

    1. Hi Lynne,

What we’re trailblazing here at tails.com is the direction the current dog food market is heading in. Purina have recognised what we’ve achieved in the four years since we started and they believe in what we do. We chose to take the investment to help us do what we do best – provide truly tailored nutrition for dogs all across the UK.

      Jack

  104. Purina does not have a good review in terms of quality of food. I wonder why you want to have the investment of a poor grade dog food with your high quality food.

    1. Hi Mrs Peters,

When it comes to the high quality and same great products of your dog’s food, nothing changes. What we will be sure to do with the investment is improve our service and your overall experience with tails.com. For example, it allows us to hire more people in our customer experience team, providing you and your dog with more support.

      Jack

    1. Hi Karen,

It’s a good question and we have a lot of plans moving forward. The investment allows us to hire more people to make sure you and your dog are receiving all the support they need, we’re able to improve our groundbreaking technology and provide an even better tails.com service. These are just a few of the improvements we have in mind.

      Jack

  105. Please don’t fall into the trap of the big commercial pet food producers. We changed to Tails because we wanted our dog to enjoy tasty good quality food, not the mass produced mushy rubbish that’s available on supermarket shelves. When are you going to enter into the cat food market? My cats just love Bess’s food!

    1. Hi Lynne,

We can assure you we’ll be providing the same individually tailored nutrition and this won’t be changing. We’re still an independent company with our own management team and we’ll continue making our own decisions.

Regarding cat food – no immediate plans but keep an eye out in future!

      Jack

    1. Hi Craig,

It’s a good suggestion! We’ll definitely be looking to expand our range of products and I’ll be sure to pass this on to the team.

      Jack

  106. very interesting thank you for keeping myself and Dougal up to date on your company very much appreciate this and think that you offer a great value for money product,
    many thanks

    sandra and dougal

  107. Wish you all the best for the future. Hope you have as much fun with your springer as we do although you still have the difficult stages to go through first. Now that Megan is nearly four we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and bearing in mind that we are in our 70s she is keeping us young. Will this mean that you will be providing food for cats soon.

    1. We don’t have a fixed time frame for providing a similar service for cats, but it’s definitely something we’ll be considering in future!

  108. I am disappointed to read that you are taking investment from such a large Corporation as Nestle (Purina Foods). This company has received some bad reviews in the past and has also been involved in a law suit when it was claimed that their dog food had actually harmed pets. I may have to think again when it comes to ordering further food for Sandy.

    1. Hi Sylvia,

I’m so sad to hear you’re disappointed in our news. Sandy’s food will not be changing because of this, and we’re still going to use the exact same, high quality ingredients as before.

      Best,
      Sage

  109. Thank you for my email I am pleased about you and Purina getting together and that Riley will still be able to get his food from you GOOD LUCK on your future investers I am happy to help you buy buying Riley’s food from you 😊😊

    1. Thanks you so much for the well-wishes, Anne! We really appreciate the support from you and Riley. Looking forward to many more great years together.

  110. A recent report on the worst dog foods and Purine is in the top 3.I have chosen Tails as I wanted something better for my dog, disappointed this has come about and not sure I will stay with you.

    1. Hi Carolyn

We are so glad you have chosen Tails for your dog and please know that despite our change in investor will not change the quality of our food or the decisions we make – nutrition will always come first. The standards we’ve always used to create our food will remain the same and your dogs recipe will continue to match their changing needs. If you are wondering whether you will find Purina products in your food the answer is no, our unique custom-made kibbles are at the heart of what we do and have been specially developed to work with our game-changing customised feeding system. We guarantee the quality of our ingredients will stay the same.

      All the best,

      Emily

  111. It all sounds really great.Moving forward is a must!! I’ve only been a customer for a few weeks and Tori lapped her kibble up within a couple days of changing to tails.com.So I got one hope the recipe for her doesn’t change.I wish you all well in your new venture.
    Jo and🐾Tori.x

    1. Hi Jo,

Welcome to the family! And thanks so much for you support and well-wishes. Tell Tori for us that her food won’t change and she doesn’t need to worry about a thing.

  112. Far the best doggie food I recommend tails to enyone as you sure won’t get such a high quality food as this my little shorkie pup loves it and bounces with health

    1. Hi Julie,

Thanks so much for all of your positivity! We’re bouncing with joy as well just having you guys with us.

      Best,
      Sage

  113. I understand your need for investment. But my hesitation is that I didn’t go for Purina as a brand, I went for you! Because I felt that you were tailor made and special. Not mass produced. But if you say that nothing has changed then I suppose it won’t effect me or Teddie.

    1. Hi Shirley

Despite our change in investment this will not affect the quality of our food or the decisions we make, nutrition will always come first and you wont be finding any Purina products in Teddies blend either. When tails.com was just starting out, there were simply no kibbles that did what we needed them to do in order for them to work with our feeding system. Our unique, custom-made kibbles are at the absolute core of what we do: they’re the only way we can create truly tailor-made nutrition for dogs across the UK and we will continue to use them exclusively.

Hopefully this helps and give Teddie a hug from us 🙂

      All the best,

      Emily

  114. Hi I haven’t got Bear anymore He had to be put to sleep 2 years ago .
I have Teaga who is now 8
And Zinc who is 2 in June
    Both Staffys
Zinc seems to have an allergy and not sure to what .If you have any foods that can help then I would be interested?.thankyou

    1. Hi Christine,

I’m really sorry to hear about Bear, I know how tough that is.

We’re happy to provide your two new dogs with some tailored nutrition. In regards to Zinc’s allergies, just send us an email at hello@tails.com and we’ll see how we can help.

      Best,
      Sage

  115. I’m afraid I too feel a little like Helen, too many small companies have an “investment” from large companies and lose their identity; even though they say they won’t. I will be watching carefully and giving some thought to the situation to see how things evolve but it does sadden me, as I have always been proud to say I used tails.com to feed my dog and he does love your food.

    1. Hi Carol

We’re sorry you feel that way, we understand that these kind of things can be very personal decision and we can only reassure you that despite the change in investor we will not change the quality of our food or the decisions we make – nutrition is at the forefront of everything we do and we will always to make sure your dog’s recipe matches their changing needs so that your dog will continue to love his food. Be sure to keep in touch and give your doggie a hug from us.

      All the best,

      Emily

    1. Hi Sylvia,

Purina are a majority stake holder now, but we make our own decisions. It’s our business model of tailor-made blends that has worked so well and caught the eye of our new partners. They want to see us flourish and expand, so other dogs can experience the nutritional benefits we provide.

      Best,
      Sage

  116. I will be cancelling my dogs food order with you after today’s announcement. Not prepared to fund Purina’s awful dog food ingredients or to fund Nestle, sadly another British owned business sold out

    1. Hi Karen,

It’s truly heartbreaking for us to hear this. Our new investors will help us expand our reach and feed more dogs – but the food will remain the same. Our high quality, tailored nutrition is what has worked so well for so long, and there’s no reason we would ever change that.

      Best,
      Sage

  117. Good afternoon,
I have just read your email regarding the investment into your company by Purina. I have to say, I totally agree with Helen Belcher regarding the business practice of Nestle, and I will also, sadly, have to discontinue my subscription for Bruno’s dog food. This is a real shame, as he loves the kibble and seems to be very healthy on it. I also like the ease of having my orders delivered to my door, and I enjoyed supporting a small ethical company.

    1. Hi Julie

We’re sorry you feel that way, we understand that these kind of things can be very personal decision and if you and Bruno ever wanted to come back to Tails we’d love to see you.

      All the best,

      Emily

  118. Hello Carly,
Your rather standardised answer of being still run with your own production facilities sound very nice, but Nestle will want to see a return on their investment. We, as customers, would like to understand what that could be. Or have the owners sold out, pocketed a large cheque, and loaded tails with additional debt? A bit more clarity would go a long way. And by the way, my dogs are also lying at my feet…

    1. Hi Rolf

Thank you for your reply and wonderful to hear your dogs are also cuddled up by your feet, I’ve currently got our office dog Noodle eying up my lap. Let me clarify a little further regarding the investment from Purina 🙂 As majority investors Purina will indeed gain financial benefit from our future success and growth. From the tails.com position and in regards to what you can expect to see, this large investment will allow us to grow and expand so we can help even more dogs lead happier and healthier lives whilst also ensuring our customers receive the best service possible.

      Best wishes,

      Emily

  119. I am currently operating a boycott of Nestle products and I wouldn’t buy Purina products even if they weren’t owned by Nestle. So what will Purina’s investment actually mean? How R U benefitting from their investment and what do THEY get out of this alliance. Truffles is doing so well and I trust Tails.com whereas I don’t trust great big companies like Nestle. You are a great little company. Why do U need them? You be careful they don’t pinch your recipes and repackage them with cheaper, less nutritious ingredients – then they will have just swallowed U up. I want 2 know what their input is.
    Best wishes,
    Maggi and Truffles

    1. Hi Maggi

Thanks for getting in touch. That is so fantastic to hear how Truffles is getting on too 🙂

We chose to take investment from Purina in order to help us do more of what we do best: high-quality nutrition, tailor-made for every tails.com dog. This will allow us to add more people to our team so we can provide more support for you and your dog (for example on the phones and email), plus improvements to our ground-breaking technology on the website and behind the scenes. We will also invest in marketing and advertising to spread the word about our life-changing nutrition.

In regards to pinching our recipes, we do not have ‘recipes’ as such since each dog is different and has different requirements our algorithm then formulates their unique blend and this will not be affected by the investment since we still operate as an independent business. It’s also worth noting that only tails.com kibbles have been specially developed to work with our game-changing customised feeding system. We will continue to use them exclusively and can guarantee we’ll still hold ourselves to the same standards we’ve always used to create our food. We’ve always made sure Truffles’ recipe matches Truffles’ changing needs, and we’ll continue to do so. And we guarantee the quality of our ingredients will stay the same.

Hopefully this helps and be sure to give Truffles a hug from us.

      All the best,

      Emily

  120. I’m concerned as you have responded to each and every comment on here with the same message. I want reassurance from someone who isn’t copying and pasting a drafted message sent to them by their marketing and communications team. If the ingredients in your products start changing and the health of my dog starts to be put at risk then I’m afraid I won’t be staying as a very loyal subscriber!

    1. Hi Hannah

Thank you for reaching out and we are sorry to hear of your concern. Please rest assured that here at Tails.com, quality is of upmost importance and nutrition is at the very heart of what we do. We’ve always made sure your dog’s recipe matches their changing needs, and we’ll continue to do so. This means that the quality of our ingredients will remain the same, as will the high standards we have always used to create our food.

We hope this helps and please do feel free to drop us a line to hello@tails.com if you ever wish to discuss your dogs unique blend too 🙂

      All the best

      Emily

  121. I think what folks want guaranteed (myself included) is that the food currently being supplied WONT change and the price remains fair, it’s difficult to see how bringing in a new partner doesn’t send prices higher, especially if the process is remaining the same to be honest. Don’t Purina sell sell similar products themselves in pets at home anyway?

    1. Hi Tony

Absolutely, we will always made sure your dog’s recipe matches their changing needs, and we guarantee the quality of our ingredients will stay the same as we still hold ourselves to the same standards we’ve always used to create our food, this includes everything from the ingredients we use to our fair pricing.

Purina do indeed sell their own products but if you are wondering about whether you will be seeing any Purina products in your dogs food, the answer is no. Our unique, custom-made kibbles are at the absolute core of what we do: they’re the only way we can create truly tailor-made nutrition, for dogs across the UK. We will continue to use them exclusively along with our wet food to provide your dog with the best possible nutrition for their needs.

      All the best,

      Emily

    1. Hi Linda,

Thanks for letting us know – It’s feedback like this that helps us improve our products. I’ll pass this on to the rest of our team so we can take a look into this.

      Best,
      Sage

  122. Slightly concerned.
Appreciate the support Purina can offer (Financially and Operationally) – but it’s the inevitable changes which worry me, with regards to the changes in my dogs food. It’ll make me feel like I’ve bought cheap food off the supermarket shelf. We spent a long time trying to find a great mix for him, which wasn’t cheap? But worked well.
    Alex

    1. Hi Alex,

There’s no need for concern, let me tell you why. Your dog will continue receiving the exact same, high quality blend that he already does every month. Our new partners want to help us reach more dogs so they can experience the same great food too. We’re always looking to make improvements, but you won’t see a change to the packaging or kibbles as a result of this investment.

      Best,
      Sage

  123. All I see above are numerous ‘copy and paste’ responses to valid consumer concerns. How about a straight answer? What, precisely, have Purina indicated that they want from the deal? No business invests a significant amount of money for no return so be blunt. What is their motivation and expectation?
Our dog does enjoy your food and we enjoy the convenience but there are alternatives.

    1. Hi Phil,

Great question. I’m happy your dog enjoys the food – you can tell him that will stay the same! Purina have a majority stake in our company now, and we will continue to make the same tailored blends that we always have. It’s our unique, custom kibbles that rocked the market and got us this far in the first place. We won’t be changing that, and our new partners want to help us reach more dogs so they can enjoy the same tailored nutrition.

      Best,
      Sage

  124. I must say I am a little concerned with this venture with Purina as Bruno before having tails.com was so fussy. He would not eat any Purina foods. If you are giving us your guarantee that the food won’t change I will remain but still feel sceptical as Purina surely will want an input into your business.

    1. Hi Sheena

Bruno does not need to worry, we will not be including any Purina products in his food, the quality of our ingredients and the standards we have always used to create our food will remain the same. We’ve always made sure Bruno’s recipe matches his changing needs, and nothing will change here as we continue to do so.

Purina have simply recognised our achievements so far and can see our potential for the future and want to support us through their investment. We chose this investment to help us do more of what we do best: provide high-quality nutrition which is tailor-made for every tails.com dog and also provide support whenever you or Bruno may need it.

Hopefully this helps and give Bruno a cuddle from us 🙂

      Best wishes,

      Emily

  125. Hello
I am trying to find out the ingredients that you put into Benji’s food, to know percentage of chicken and vegetables you use, also do you think turkey (with less fat than chicken) should be added? I am using diet to prevent problems with pancreatitus as he is monitored regularly by my vet for high fat in his blood. I have high cholesterol that I have managed by diet, so am hoping to do the same for Benji who now is rising 3 and has more activity than when I completed your information form previously.

    1. Hi Diane,

You’re able to take a look at a complete breakdown of Benji’s food on your account. You can do this by clicking ‘View and edit profile’ then scrolling down to ‘View feeding plan’. We don’t use turkey as a protein source in our blends, but we’d love to take a look at everything and help out with our Nutrition Team.

Can you send us an email to hello@tails.com?

We look forward to hearing from you.
      Jack

  126. Putina have a bad reputation, If nothing is changing why have them on board. ? How can we as customers be sure the ingredients wont change now and in the near future ?
I wish the buisness luck and just hope nothing changes.

    1. Hi Lorraine,

We chose to take the investment as Purina want to help us achieve our goal, not change anything. It means we’re able to improve the service we provide you all as customers – hiring more team members to offer support when needed. The investment allows us to reach more dogs across the UK at a faster rate, providing them with the tailored nutrition they deserve.

We will always put nutrition first. We guarantee we’ll still hold ourselves to the same standards we’ve always used to create our food and the high quality of our ingredients will not change.

      Jack

  127. We used your dog food to stay away from purina brands. We will soon know if they make you change the recipes as my dog will become violently ill. Shame nestle line the pockets by animal testing liked your brand as you were ethnical.

    1. Hi Jennifer,

We don’t see our new partners that way, and our unwavering commitment to dogs’ wellbeing will not change. Although we’ve taken an investment we make our own decisions and source our own product on our own terms.

      Jack

  128. I keep hearing the same thing over and over ” We are continuing as a stand alone business run my your own management team with your own blends ” BUT FOR HOW LONG Nestle is a money grabbing company that use products that I wouldn’t want my dog to eat never mind what they are doing to the Rain Forests wiping out football size plots daily for Palm Trees Not my idea of the sort of company that you jump into bed with they will want an input to cut costs improve profits then they will have their logo as well. I like the rest joined Tails for what it stood for to get away from greedy companies and go to people who cared for OUR DOGS. You can take this as my cancellation for any further Tails for my dog Jack.

    1. Hi Paul,

I completely understand and I assure you that your dog’s wellbeing is and always will be the most important thing. There won’t be any Purina products making their way into your orders because our custom kibbles that provide tailor-made nutrition are at the core of everything we do.

We chose to take this investment so we’re able to provide as many dogs as possible with the diet they deserve. We continue to make our own decisions on our own terms.

      Jack

  129. I am very happy for you. You have a superb business model and I will continue to order the kibble from your company, my dog Lola loves her food and her pancreatitis is kept at bay, such a relief. Thank you.

    1. Thanks Ella, we really appreciate having you and Lola as customers! Be sure to keep us updated with how she’s getting on.

    1. Hi Thomas,

No, nothing changes. Your lady will still be receiving the tails.com food she knows and loves.

      Jack

  130. Hello
Having read the comments made here, I am also worried that particularly my dog Henry who’s food allergy is finally under control. You haven’t at any point said that you can guarantee that you won’t bet using Purina’s products, you have answered this……We are continuing as a stand-alone business, run by our own management team working out of our own blending rooms. Your dog’s tailor-made food will still be a blend of our very own range of tasty kibbles, so they will continue to receive the same high quality. Can you guarantee nothing will change?
If so, then that’s great if it works for you guys, but if not, then I will have to start to look elsewhere again.
Thank you Lesley, Henry and Bob

    1. Hi Lesley,

Yes we can – we guarantee that the quality of the ingredients in Henry’s (and Bob’s if he’s a tails.com dog too) food will not change. Our unique kibbles that have helped with his allergy and allowed him to thrive are going nowhere and you won’t be finding Purina products taking their place.

      Jack

  131. While the likes of Royal Canin and Purina PetCare have dominated the global dog food market for decades, challenger brands like London-based Tails.com have marked their territory in recent years. Today, Nestlé Purina PetCare announced that it will acquire a majority stake in the British startup.

I have just read the above on business news!
I honestly don’t see how things won’t change if Nestle Purina are the major stakeholders.
    Very disappointed,
    Lesley

    1. Hi Lesley

      Thanks for getting in touch.

Although we’ve taken investment from Purina, we continue to make our own decisions about our food – your dog’s food. The move is from a group of investors on our board, who helped us get up and running, to one long-term investor on our board that can help us do more of what we do best. Our own management team remain unchanged, and the team here at tails.com are all proud shareholders.

This means our commitment to providing tailored nutrition is as strong as it was from day one and nutrition is our top priority. We can therefore guarantee the quality of our ingredients will stay the same as we still hold ourselves to the same standards we’ve always used to create our food.

We hope this has helped explain things a little more but do feel free to drop us a line at hello@tails.com if you have any questions about your dogs unique blend.

      All the best

      Emily

  132. What is the deal here?. How much equity have Purina taken and at what price. Just being upfront and honest will help us decide and save me looking op the details elsewhere.

Like many I am not a Purina Fan and if they have bought the company outright it wont be long before your wonderful efforts and ethics are discarded by the relentless pursuit of profit that is Purina and Nestle Group.

    1. Hi Duncan,

To answer your question more precisely – Purina have a majority stake in our company. We’ve moved on from multiple short-term investors, to one long-term investor. Our products and service will remain exactly the same, but this will help us expand and reach more dogs.

      Best,
      Sage

  133. Can you honestly guarantee that Purina ingredients will NOT be added to your blends????????? All I keep reading is

You dog’s tailor-made food will still be a blend of our own range of tasty kibbles, so they will continue to receive the same high quality meals made in our own blending rooms. We’re continuing as a stand-alone business, run by our own management team. We won’t stop delivering the same great products and service that you and others love!

Seems very miss leading and avoiding the real Question which most of us are actually asking

    1. Hi Georgina, we can assure you that Purina products won’t be included in our blends. We can also guarantee that the quality of the ingredients we use won’t change. Your dog’s health and happiness will always be our number one priority.

If you have any more questions or concerns, please feel free to send us an email to questions@tails.com and we’ll be happy to help.

      Karri

  134. I cannot believe how my dog Arthur has changed since I have put him on the dry tails food he is 13 years old but he acts like a puppy, full of the joy of spring. Thank you very much Tails.com

    1. Hi Teresa

      Thanks for getting in touch.

We chose this investment to help us do more of what we do best: high-quality nutrition, tailor-made for every tails.com dog. With you and your dog being absolutely essential to us, this investment will allow us to focus on the kinds of things our customers tell us they care about. Such as hiring more people in the team, which means more support for you and your dog (for example on the phones and email), plus improvements to our ground-breaking technology on the website and behind the scenes. We will also invest in marketing and advertising to spread the word about our life-changing nutrition.

      Hopefully this helps,

      Best,

      Emily

  135. I am concern about the Purina dog food cause my dog have sensitive stomach & skin. That is why I chose tails.com. This is the only food that doesn’t flare up his conditions. I prefer that no purina food will be added. I will do know when his condition start.

    1. Hi Mrs Fitzgerald

We are so happy to hear your dog is feeling better on their Tails.com food, that’s fantastic news. You and your dog do not need to worry, we shall not be adding any Purina products into our unique blends. Our custom-made kibbles are at the heart of our feeding plan and the only way we can create truly tailor-made nutrition for dogs across the UK. We shall continue to use them exclusively and will not be changing the quality of our ingredients.

      All the best,

      Emily

  136. My question is WHY!!!!
What rare Purina getting out of joining forces with tails.com???? I think it is a big mistake and you are trying to fob us off with saying u will be able help more dogs but I think that is a load of rubbish and tails.com do not need Purina!!
Don’t change something that doesn’t need changing!!!
    Very unhappy customer!!!

    1. Hi Lucy,

I’m so upset to hear that you’re unhappy – this is not how we want you to feel at all. I can guarantee that nothing will change to your dog’s food or the service you receive. We’re still the same tails.com! We want to reach more dogs so they can experience the same kind of tailored nutrition your dog already receives – and we do need some help to do that.

      Always,
      Sage

  137. Not good news for chippy
Purina food and her dont agree this will be our last order. The journey had been good todate.

    1. Hi Ian

Chippy does not need to worry, we will not be including Purina products in her food. The quality of our ingredients our standards we’ve always used to create our food will remain the same. Therefore, Chippy will continue to receive her unique blend that she knows and loves 🙂

      All the best,

      Emily

  138. Hi if you love your customers so much why didn’t you ask us for investment first. Even a survey to estimate how much we could have raised, I feel you have not explored all the options thus selling out to the the big boys
    Alan

    1. Hi Alan,

I’m really sad that you see it as ‘selling out’, that’s not how it is to us. We’ve just replaced our short-term investors with a long-term one. We let you know of our new partnership as soon as we possibly could via email, posts on social media and this blog post here. We’re still the same company, and everyone who works here remains a shareholder as well.

      Best,
      Sage

  139. With respect to Tails.com, you are fudging the issue. This lady is asking you to guarantee nothing will change as far as the ingredients and manufacture of the kibbles she trusts. You have not addressed that. You say you are stand-alone, and the food will be just as delicious, but people are asking for guarantees, and you don’t seem to be able to give them. Our animals’ health is more important than big business, which is why I am glad my pet is fussy, and turns his nose up at anything out of a tin or a Purina packet – and thank God remains in good health. I understand this lady’s concerns. Soon they (Purina) will be asking you to make more and more, and your ethics will be compromised. Please give us the assurance, honestly, that not one single ingredient will be changed

    1. Hi Susie,

I’m so sorry we haven’t answered your questions how you would have like. I can guarantee that not one single ingredient will change, in fact, your dog will likely be none the wiser to the new investment at all! It’s our high quality ingredients and custom kibbles that have gotten us this far, and Purina want to help us expand and reach more dogs. As is our business model, your dog’s blend will continue to evolve as your dog ages and their health conditions change, but no changes will be a result of the investment.

      Always,
      Sage

  140. I too am not a fan of Purina dog for for Fergie my 17yr old patterdale , plus with his recent decline in his health it’s important for me too make sure he’s happy with his food , it’s ok for you now to keep sending the same generic answer like you won’t change your special blends for our dogs and it will still be mixed in your Richmond blending room but I liked the fact your were exclusive as a ‘stand alone company’ with the needs of our dogs first , how long before this changes as you’ve already taken the first steps !!

    1. Hi Leanne & Fergie,

I’m really sad to read your comment and I can absolutely assure you that nothing will change to your Fergie’s food. We make our own decisions and the new investment will not effect that. Fergie’s health and happiness is at the heart of what we do and no investment can ever change that.

      Best,
      Sage

  141. I do hope that the blend will not change my dog Ellie has a sensitive stomach and don’t want to change brands .
But if you change her blend I hope you would tell me as I would have to leave and find a new dog fòod
Hope that’s not the case .
    Thanks
    Sylvia

    1. Hi Sylvia,

I can assure you that Ellie’s blend will never change as a result of our recent investment. Many of our customers come to us because their dog’s have sensitivities like Ellie, and we will never do anything to jeopardise their health. Her blend will evolve as time goes on to adapt to her changing needs – but that is all.

      Always,
      Sage

  142. Carly,

You could have at least put some effort in to your replies to people’s concerns. Given that this is shown together on one page, it is so obvious that you have copied & pasted certain replies!

An injection of capital from Purina is a lethal injection, however you paint it. They are not a nice company and my concern is why, as a clearly growing and successful pet-oriented business, you sought investment from your largest competitor and a devilish one at that!!! Did the banks turn you down?

Whether or not you mix the foods in the same way, stay in dog-friendly wherever and have the ‘same’ management shape the kibbles by hand, letting poison into the system just destroys everything I loved about Tails, com: integrity, reliability, ethics and suitability.

As the saying goes: “you don’t poop where you eat!”

    Time to cease my orders…

    1. Hi Jay,

I’m really heartbroken to see your response as this is not how we see our new partners. The investment will simply help us reach and feed more dogs the same type of tailored nutrition your dog is used to. I can understand you have to stick by your personal views, but I want you to know we will always be here for you if you choose to come back.

      Best,
      Sage

  143. Hi
I too am concerned as just appears another corporate merger for profit
I’m sure it makes economic sense and I see that but the moral aspect is what I would question here
II would think a large proportion of your business is from people who like the more independent and personal touch which will
be lost and also they do not want to contribute if possible to large faceless corporations
I’m afraid I will be looking elsewhere

    1. Hi Alex,

I really hope that you’ll reconsider. That personal touch that you love is going nowhere – we’re continuing to offer the same great service and high quality products that we always have. All our decisions will be made by ourselves and on our own terms. We hope to see you again in future.

      Jack

  144. Like other comments, I don’t feel good about this news. You’ve sold out to the big companies. If it works enough for Purina to be interested, why couldn’t you stay independent?

    1. Hi Gillian

We’re sorry to hear that you feel that way, we understand that these kind of things can be very personal and you see this as a “sell out”. But we do not see this investment, or our new partners, in this light. Although we have taken an investment from Purina we remain an independent company, making our own decisions about our own food. We took this investment in order to help us grow and allow us to do more of what we do best: high-quality nutrition, tailor-made for every tails.com dog.

      Best wishes,

      Emily

  145. Good Luck with your new partnership.

I’m a happy owner of a very happy, spoilt little dog.

I like that our order gets delivered, the dog enjoys it & I no longer have to fight the hoards (life is busy enough as is)

Long may my spoilt pooch enjoy her food!

    1. Hi Emily,

Thanks so much for your lovely message! It warms my heart to hear how well your pooch is doing on our food.

      Best,
      Sage

  146. I am sorry to hear you have taken an investment from purina. I don’t agree with additives they add or other things they add. I chose tails because it was all naturally sourced. I will be keeping an eye on the progress of this merger but I really wish you had spoken to your customers first.
If I notice any difference in Holly’s food I will cancel my orders. It seems I am not the only one disappointed by this merger.

    1. Hi Rosemary,

I can assure you we won’t be changing our blends or ingredients. We wanted to keep you guys in the loop, which is why we sent out an email to every single customer, posted on all of our social media channels and wrote this blog. We love Holly and all of the doggos who eat our food, and we would never do anything to upset their health or happiness.

      Always,
      Sage

  147. My dog Cara has done very well with her personal mix of food from tails.com and as I’m on a low income it’s much cheaper than some high street brands

Tails.com will always be my first port of call for Cara

Wish you every success in the future

  148. Billy loves his food and am so pleased to have found food that herealy enjoys.

I do worry what Purina wants from you. They must be getting something from your new venture I never buy Purina foods

    1. Hi Anne,

I’m really happy to hear that Billy loves his food. Purina can see our potential to change the world of pet food for good, providing truly tailored nutrition. We chose this investment to help us do more of what we do at a quicker rate, providing more dogs across the UK with their very own tailor-made blends.

      Jack

  149. Very disappointed to hear of purinas involvment.
I have to agree with some of the other comments regarding nestles ethics and morals.

  150. This saddens me. Whilst I understand that investment is vital in business, if a business is already successful and profit making why the need? You say that it’s to be able to get your message out there even more, but paring up with a company that has had numerous contamination scares and welfare concerns in the past, contradicts that ethos I thought you had. Investors always hold the upper hand, once they are on board they will be changes. We recently saw this happen with Copella a brand local to us.

Part of the appeal was that you were a smaller brand- it made it feel more special and believeavle that well being and quality was at heart.

I will be sourcing a new supplier, hopefully a smaller business with the ideologies that I thought you had.

I wish you luck, mostly to your staff who did not have a say in this.

    1. Hi Charlotte,

We really appreciate your feedback and we’ll be sad to see you leave. We don’t see our new partners that way, and our dedication to dogs’ wellbeing remains as strong as ever. Although we’ve taken investment from Purina we continue to be an independent company, making our own decisions and products, using our own custom made kibbles to provide truly tailor-made nutrition. Everyone here is a shareholder and we all share the same goal – to change the lives of owners and their pets for the better.

Wishing you and your dog all the best,
      Jack

    1. Hi Sharon,

Purina can see and understand what we’ve been able to achieve since we were founded. They see the potential and significant benefits that tailored nutrition provides and want to be a part of it, rather than look to make any changes. We chose this investment to help us continue providing the same great products and service.

      Jack

  151. Oh dear oh dear. Sad to hear this. Will you guarantee the food will be the same? Ie no rubbish added like Purina products? Alarm bells ringing what a terrible move when you are so popular and they are not. Time to shop around for a new food my fussy girl will eat.

    1. Hi Claire,

We guarantee that the quality of our ingredients will stay at the same high standard – this investment does not change that. We’ll continue providing the tailor-made blend that your fussy girl knows and loves.

      Jack

  152. How long can you guarantee the pricing won’t change . I am very dubious that the recipe will stay the same.
My feeling is the product will be cheapened and the price will rise.
I will notice as Tails food has settled my dogs stomach

    1. Hi John,

Over the past year, as our costs of delivery, ingredients and wages have gone up, we have increased the price of some of our ranges. We will always work to avoid passing these costs on to our customers and the investment does not change that fact. We always have and always will make sure your dog’s recipe fulfills their changing needs and we promise the quality of our ingredients will stay at the same high standard.

      Jack

  153. I love everything about Tails.com, the personal touch, the occasional change to portion sizes etc. For the past few years I’ve felt very confident about what I am feeding Ellie, who in the past suffered with skin conditions and digestion.
I too have reservations about Purina and hope that you continue to provide your high quality service.
    Regards
    Sally Ward and Ellie

    1. Hi Sally,

I’m so happy to hear Ellie has been loving and thriving on her tailor-made blend. I can assure you this will not change, so please don’t worry about that.

We’re always here if you need us, so if you have any other concerns please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

      Best,
      Sage

  154. I am unhappy about your decision to join with Purina. I shall be changing my dog’s food after his next delivery as I (like many others) do not trust Purina. Such a shame. Big mistake I feel.

    1. Hi MJ,

We don’t see this investment or our new partners that way. And we’ll continue to be an independent company, making our own decisions and delivering our own custom kibbles.

      Jack

  155. Hope it all goes well for Tails, but uneasy re what’s in it for Purina. Hope they don’t try and take you over. Best wishes all the same.

    1. Hi WP,

Thanks so much for the well-wishes and we really look forward to showing you that we’re still the same company as before, with the same values and goals. One of our goals has always been to expand and reach more dogs – this is where Purina comes in. They’ll help us do just that! I hope this helps answer your question.

      Best,
      Sage

  156. I think the point people are making is the content of the food, not the management team, the office base or the location of the blending rooms.
Currently we have healthy dogs, at a reasonable cost, because we choose not to use the mass producers of pet foods with questionable content.
In time, I’m sure Purina will want something back for their investment – possibly to the detriment of the current quality, but hopefully not. We’ll wait and see.

    1. Hi Liz,

I can understand that the main priority is your dog’s health – it’s ours too. We guarantee we’ll maintain the same high standards we’ve always used to create our food. You won’t find any Purina products in your dog’s blend or elsewhere.

Purina have recognised that only we can do what we do and they wanted to be a part of it. We’ll continue to make our own decisions and will always put your dog’s wellbeing first.

      Jack

  157. Like many others I am not happy. I have only recently started using your company because it offered something different for my girls. Would never buy Purina food and very disappointed you are taking money from them. You might as a company think things won’t change I think that’s naive and in the long run things will change.

    1. Hi Caroline,

I’m sorry to hear you feel this way, we always want you to be confident in the food you feed your girls. I completely appreciate your concerns- as a fellow dog owner I only want the best for my dog as well. This investment won’t change the way we do things, we’ll still be providing the same high quality ingredients to your dogs each month. You won’t find any Purina products in their blends.

I hope you’ll decide to stick with us, and if you have any more concerns or questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

      Karri

  158. I’m somewhat worried about this partnership as Purina has questionable ethics and their dog food is slated by the doggy world. Poppy likes your food as it is now, even though I think the salt content is slightly too high compared to other similar foods. I shall be looking for an alternative as I don’t believe that Purina is not going to change the food, the price or the recipe. Investment comes with a cost and unfortunately in this case it will cost you some loyal customers I fear, me included.

    1. Hi Dagmar,

I’m sad to hear you feel this way, we’d hate to lose you and the lovely Poppy as customers. As a fellow dog owner, I know how important it is to have complete confidence in Poppy’s food. We can guarantee that the quality of the ingredients in her blend won’t change. We’ve always worked hard to avoid passing on any additional costs to our customers, and this won’t change.

      Karri

  159. Hi
In the reviews that I have read you state that your blend of kibbles will not change, but there is no mention of any changes that may occur in your wet food.
Archie loves both the kibbles and wet food, and what attracted me to your blend of wet foods was there are no added addactives.
Will this remain the same practice?
    Good Luck for the future.
    Glenda

    1. Hi Glenda,

Great question. To clarify – none of our recipes will change, including the wet food. You can let Archie know he can keep looking forward to his tasty trays!

      Best,
      Sage

  160. Can I be assured that you will notify me in advance if you intend to change any of the ingredients in Hugo’s food?

    1. Hi Cynthia,

As always, Hugo’s recipe can change – we’ve consistently made sure that Hugo’s tailored blend is tailored to his changing needs – but I can assure you that the ingredients in Hugo’s food will continue be the same high standard we have always had.

      Jack

  161. Hi, you have stated that the flavours and quality will remain the same. Will the actual ingredients and or ratio of ingredients change please?

    1. Hi Louis,

Your dog’s health is the most important thing to us and this will never change. We’ll continue to provide tailored nutrition for all tails.com dogs. The ingredients in your dog’s blend will not change as a result of this new relationship.

      Best,
      Sage

  162. I sincerely hope that nothing changes, my dolly is so much better and the vet is very impressed with her since she’s been on your food, at the moment I will co tinge with you and hope that nothing changes. I don’t like Purina but will accept your promise that nothing will change

    1. Hi Cynthia,

Please don’t worry, I can assure you Dolly’s food will not change. Her custom kibbles will continue being delivered every month and Dolly won’t even know there’s been an investment! We appreciate your support and look forward to many more years together with you and Dolly.

      Best,
      Sage

  163. I understand that Purina as a Nestle subsidery undertake laboratory testing and feeding experiments on animals.

Please can you confirm whether any products or ingredients from tails.com will be laboratory tested on animals following this partnership?

    1. Hi Minnie and Minnie’s Dad,

I am happy to confirm that none of our products or ingredients will be tested on animals, just as they never have been. Purina don’t test on animals either.

      Best,
      Sage

  164. Oh dear, the one company I would not use for pet food, I am concerned. Molly has pancreatitis and tails.com products have been really good, she has not had an upset tummy for nearly a year now and it is delivered so I don’t have to worry about running out. I really don’t like Purina products, the last bag I gave away as Molly really didn’t like it! I will be cancelling, I just can’t take that risk and the can’t afford the vet bills when she is poorly. What a shame so sad!

    1. Hi Kym,

This is really sad to hear, especially as Molly has been doing so well on her tailor made blend. I completely appreciate your concerns- please be assured that Molly’s blend will continue to be formulated with the high quality ingredients it always has been. We’ve never compromised on the health and happiness of our dogs- and this investment won’t change how we feel or what we do.

It’s great to know that Molly hasn’t had any health troubles in a year, we’d love to continue to provide her with the blend she loves for a long time to come.

      Karri

  165. Just been reading the feedback guys. Oh dear. It seems a lot of your customers arent happy with your new collaboration including myself.
Such a disappointment. Purina are aweful. Please dont make it all about the money. You were doing so well.
    Unsure and feel let down.

    1. Hi Laura

We are so sorry to hear this and certainly didn’t want to disappoint you. We don’t see our new partners in this way and chose to take the investment to help us achieve our goal to provide as many dogs as possible with the tailored diet they deserve. We’ll continue to make our own decisions, and our focus on providing high quality nutrition certainly has not changed.

I understand that it is always such a personal choice when making decisions for your dogs wellbeing and we fully appreciate that. Please rest assured that helping dogs live their best lives through tailored nutrition remains our top priority 🙂

      Best wishes

      Emily

  166. Like most of the above comments I am disappointed and suspicious about a collaboration with Purina.
At present things may stay the same, but look what happened when Kraft took over Cadburys – they said it would stay the same but they started changes almost immediately. The big fellows always kill the little fellows unfortunately. I sincerely hope this is not the case.
    Carolyn and “Gracie”

    1. Hi Carolyn,

I’m really sorry to hear you feel this way. We know how important it is to you and Gracie that she’s getting the best- so we guarantee that the quality of the ingredients in her kibbles will not change. We’re still doing things our way, and will continue to make our own decisions.

      Karri

  167. I do not feel I would like to continue with tails if it joins with Purina, as he had this when he was a puppy and it did not agree with him.
He loves tails, I have had no upset tummies since he has been with tails, he never passes wind, and the vet love his teeth & coat

    1. Hi Dee,

There’s absolutely no need to worry – your dog’s coat will still shine and his digestion will remain in tip-top condition. Our high quality ingredients will not be changing, and any decision we make about our company will not be influenced by this investment. It’s business as usual over here in Richmond! Stick with us and we’ll show you that we mean what we say.

      Best,

  168. I’ll still be ordering from you as blue loves his food since getting it from yourselves I wish you good luck oh ps do u do wormer by any chance thanks lynne blues owner

    1. Hi Lynne,

It’s great to hear that Blue is loving his blend! We’re not currently providing any worming products- but we’re always looking to expand what we can offer so this may be something we can do in the future.

      We really appreciate your support.

      Karri

  169. Not happy big company input the money and decrease quality. I WORK IN FOOD INDUSTRY. THEY START BY LOOKING FOR SAVINGS TO HELP MAKING MORE MONEY.

    1. Hi Simon,

I’m really sorry you feel this way, but I can assure that is not how this will go down. Purina are helping us to feed more dogs the tailored nutrition that we’re known for. Your dog’s food won’t change, we’ll just be able to provide more dogs with our service.

      Best,
      Sage

  170. Please don’t change any ingredients in the food ,my Bella is always ready for her breakfast and dinner.lt is the only food she will eat and enjoys

    1. Hi Dawn,

It’s really great to hear how much Bella is loving her meals! Don’t worry, we can guarantee that the quality of the ingredients in Bella’s blend won’t change. We really appreciate your support, and we’re looking forward to providing Bella with many more meals in the future.

  171. I’ve seen corporate responses over the years. Most of the answers here, are copy and paste the corporate line. The fact remains, Purina aren’t doing the out of benevolence. They are doing this to remove a competitor who was gaining market share. Purina will probably strip Tails down but by bit… but slowly, so as not to be obvious.
There HAS to be something in the deal for Purina. They are not a registered charity.

    1. Hi Paul,

I’m sorry to hear you feel this way- this isn’t how we see it. Purina have seen what we’ve achieved since we started out four years ago, and recognise the benefits that tailor made nutrition can have. They’ve chosen to invest in us so that we can continue to do what we do best. We’ll continue to make our own decisions, and we’ll be able to help even more dogs.

      Karri

  172. I’m apprehensive about this merger with Purina and in view of the comments that I have read, I think i’ll Be cancelling my arrangement with Tails

    1. Hi Alastair,

We’d hate to see you go, but we understand that this is a very personal decision. If you do ever want to come back to us in the future, we’d love to have you.

      Karri

    1. Hi Geraldine, sorry to hear that Buster’s not loving his salmon biscuits. You can remove these from your account- if you have any trouble just get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.

      Karri

  173. Hi, I am just a little confused on reading all the replies to other peoples questions when you say that there will be no change to your business or practices, why would they invest their money if they will have no influence on things?
Max loves his food and is in great shape for his age (12)
Hopefully down the line we wont find that things have changed and they have taken over completely!

I hope all things turn out ok

    Kind Regards
    Lesleyanne & Max

    1. Hi Lesleyanne,

Wow, 12 years old and still going strong – that’s quite impressive!

I’m sorry if we’ve caused any confusion, let me try to clear things up. The investment from Purina will help us expand and reach more dogs so they can benefit from tailored nutrition just like Max. We’re confident things will turn out okay, and hope you’ll stick around to see that come true.

      Best,
      Sage

  174. I, as many others are highly concerned at this news. I’m sure that at this moment in time you fully intend to keep your methods and recipes as they are, I’m equally sure also that Purina will put pressure on you to cut costs, otherwise ‘what’s in the deal for them’? Leading to a deterioration in the quality of your product. Can you guarantee to give us an update at anytime in plain language should there be any recipe changes? If not then we must go elsewhere.

    1. Hi Sue,

The benefit for Purina is to watch us expand and reach more dogs. There are so many more dogs out there that can benefit from tailored nutrition, and they don’t even know it yet. This investment will help us show them who we are and what we can do for their dogs.

Our recipes won’t change as they’re the foundation of what we do and the reason we’ve got to where we are today.

      Best,
      Sage

      1. All very laudable. So you won’t mind providing a guarantee that we will be informed inplain language should there be any change to the recipe? Please give a straight answer. Thank you.

  175. Many people have grave concerns about your partnership with Purina, myself included. I’ve read all the comments/questions and find it disappointing to see you are only responding to the positive ones and the more negative ones are being given a big standard response. You’re doing very little to put peoples minds at rest. It’s really annoyed me as you seem to be skirting around the real issues!

    1. Hi K. Bell,

I do apologise for the delay as we’re working to reply to everyone’s comments as quickly as we can. If you don’t find any of your concerns answered in the previous comments, please send us an email at questions@tails.com and we’ll be happy to discuss everything with you further.

      Best,
      Sage

  176. So upset by this as I amsure that eventually Purina will change your tails food as it will not be providing the markup they require. This always happens when a business gets too large. I was counting on you Tails as Pepper does so well on his tails grub. I can see that I willhave to do some research to see what other company will meet Peppers requirements.Nestle changed our Cadbury chocolate so why wouldnt they change Tails.

    1. Hi Carol,

I’m really sorry to hear you feel this way, and we’d hate to see you and Pepper go- especially as he’s doing so well. Please be assured that the quality of the ingredients in Pepper’s blend will not change. His health and happiness will always be our number one priority.

      Karri

  177. It is such a shame you have decided that Nestle Purina should have an interest in your company. Part of my decision in feeding my dog your tails.com food was that your company appeared to have firm ethics and some integrity. Sadly, I no longer feel that this will be the case.

  178. Unfortunately I am of the same mind as almost everyone else here in that I will not Buy Purina products. I will now be looking for another food source for Ben and Seamus as I do not trust Purina and its food caused my border collie to be hyperactive.
Such a shame because, although you are slightly more expensive, I thought your food was great for my dogs.
I will be cancelling my delivery.

    1. Hi Shona,

It’s really upsetting to lose you, Ben and Seamus on the back of this news. I just wanted to assure you that when it comes to their food and the products you receive in your monthly orders, there will be no change to the high quality and standard that we have always set ourselves. We’ll continue to exclusively use our own kibbles and you won’t find Purina products included.

      Jack

  179. I’m gutted to hear the news that you’ve basically sold out to the immoral and unethical giant that is Nestle. Gutted. My dog has been very happy on your food and I’ve been happy with your service but I boycott Nestle products as I have ethics and like to sleep at night. Now begins the search for something that suits both me and the pup. Again.

    1. Hi Morrigan,

We’re sorry you feel this way, and we’d hate to lose you and your dog as customers. We appreciate that these kind of things are a very personal decision and if you do decide to come back to us in the future we’d love to see you.

      Karri

  180. Hi, I am a little bit sad that you are not a totally standalone company anymore although I do sort of understand that smaller companies need investment sometimes. However, what is alarming me is that every time you have answered questions from customers, you have only mentioned the ingredients for kibble won’t be changing. Wilfie has both your kibble and wet food. He is a somewhat fussy Llahsa but he always eats his kibble and most of the wet food that I order from you. I want to understand that you are not changing the recipes for the wet food. If the wet food changes I may well have to consider my loyalty to you.

    1. Hi Carol,

You raise a good point and I want to take the opportunity to assure you that Wilfie’s wet food be of the same high quality too, as will all of our products. I’m really glad to hear how much he loves his food and we really appreciate your support.

      Jack

  181. I Like most of the comments agree that this is a concern ,I have been more than happy with the food and service that you have provided and Manuka is doing amazingly well on her diet .
I am saddened that this is happening as I don’t trust Purina ‘and the changes that in the future they will no doubtlessly do ,so I shall lookout for another individual provider ,until then I will see how things go .

    I wish you well

    1. Hi Linda,

Thank you for your well wishes and I’m so happy that Manuka is thriving. Our commitment to her health and all the benefits our food provides doesn’t change with this investment, nor does the quality of our food. We guarantee that she’ll continue receiving tailored nutrition that keeps her tail wagging.

      Jack

  182. I’m afraid it’s the standard UK business practice. New player gets a specialised stake in a market. The big boy waves cash , the small company cashes in, founders walk away with a wodge of dosh. They stay on for a couple of years claiming independence. Goodbye one competitor same old product by Purina eventually. Examples Waterstones then Smith’s then EMI. Pret/ mcDonalds. Innocent, etc etc. It’s not surprising just a bit sad

  183. Best of luck guys.
My Nell is a healthier dog since she started your food.
I know you guys have it all under controlled.
    Kindest regards
    S M Robson

    1. Hi Sandra,

It’s great to hear that Nell is doing so well! Thank you for your continued support, we really appreciate it.

      Karri

  184. Hi my dog Barnie loves the food although he is eating less, I would still prefer to carry on buying his food from you, he is 14 and has come through a burst spleen and cancer. Your food has kept him going. I will continue to buy food if we have another dog if anything happens to our boy here.

    Angie and Barnie

    1. Poor Barnie – we hope he’s doing well and we’re honoured to have been providing him with a tailor-made blend. Please give him our love and we really appreciate having you both as customers.

      Jack

  185. I must admit to being very concerned about this news. Purina are happy to push rubbish like Bakers on to unwary dog owners. You may believe you will still be in charge of what you are putting into your food but I would imagine Purina have other plans. I will be watching closely – Purinas obsession is profit where as I believed yours was the health and well being of our dogs

    1. Hi Jeanette,

Please don’t be concerned – the health and well being of the nations dog is our primary concern and this investment does nothing to change that. We’ll continue to use our unique, custom-made kibbles exclusively. They’re fundamental in everything we do and are the only way we can create truly tailor-made nutrition for dogs across the UK. Purina products will not feature in your orders.

      Jack

  186. Sorry Carly but simply repeating various phrases from your press release doesn’t put anyone’s mind at ease.
Nestle/Purina do not share your values. They have invested in Tails to make money out of Tails: that is a simple business decision. You are a success and are a rival to them. The solution to that problem is to invest and then…. take over.
I have given Tails to my GSD cross for the last two or three years and he loves it. He is too old (over 12) to change now but I bet my shirt it is only a matter of time before Nestle start interfering in order to make money from you.
Your customers have spoken and sone with their feet. It’s too late now but as the old adage goes “If it ain’t broken don’t fix it,”

    1. Hi Colin,

We completely agree with the adage which is why we won’t be making any changes to our food. Our kibbles are the only way we can be sure we’re providing tailored nutrition for every tails.com dog and we guarantee that they’ll be used exclusively for your dog’s food.

We’ll continue to make our own decisions and continue to put your dog’s wellbeing at the heart of everything we do. We’re so happy to have your GSD cross on our food and we’ll make sure he’s still getting everything he needs to thrive in his senior years.

      Jack

  187. My 5 month old Labrador called Bailey loves your food. We started out just buying dry food from you buy now we buy your wet food as well and he loves it and he loves playing in the box it arrived in. keep up the good work guys, happy dog makes a happy human.

  188. I hope that the quality of food supplied will stay the same – we chose tails.com over other foods in the supermarkets / vets etc as they offer the best quality when it comes to meat content / protein etc. I hope that this will continue to happen. Mika will be upset otherwise!

    1. Hi Beverley,

We’d never want to upset Mika! Please do let him know that the quality of his food will not be changing – we guarantee that.

      Jack

  189. Maybe I’m stupid but I fail to see how having accepted investment from Purina, Tails.com can continue with seemingly no changes? Surely Purina want something for their money? I am very disappointed about this, having only recently become a customer, and will now have to think long and hard about continuing to use your products.
I notice most of your replies to other questions reiterate the goodness of your products and say nothing will change, so perhaps you could explain exactly how Purina fits in to the equation?

    1. Hi Sandra,

Of course, we understand that our customers want to know what this means moving forward and rightly so. Purina offered the investment after acknowledging everything that we’ve achieved in the four years since we started changing the world of dog food. Tailored nutrition and happy, healthy dogs is the future of dog food and something we strongly believe we can provide better than anyone else. Purina agree with that and wanted to be a part of what we do.

We chose to accept the investment because it means we can provide a greater service for you, our customers. It means we can employ more team members to offer you and your dog support whenever it’s needed, it means we can spread the word about what we do to more people faster and it means we can continue to improve our already groundbreaking technology.

We’re so happy to have you as a customer and we really hope you’ll stay with us for the next step of our journey.
      Jack

  190. I will be cancelling our subscription now which is such a shame as my dog does well on tails food. But as others have said I cannot subscribe to a company owned by Nestle whose products I boycott. What a shame.

    1. Hi Rebecca,

This is really upsetting to hear and we hope you’ll reconsider in future – we’d love to have you back.

      Jack

  191. Oh dear – another specialist company apparently taking 30 pieces of silver from a conglomerate which is known to not care about pets anywhere near as much as profit. I shall watch with interest but may well decide to go elsewhere. Sad, very, very sad!

    1. Hi Mark,

We don’t see our new partners this way and can assure you that your dog’s wellbeing will always be at the heart of what we do. We believe every dog deserves individually tailored nutrition and this investment means we’re one step closer to achieving our mission.

      Jack

  192. Dolly loves her food from tails. The service has always been excellent. We have used the kibble for some years and hope to continue to do so.

    1. Hi Jackie,

We’re so pleased to hear this! We love having you and Dolly with us and can’t wait to keep feeding her the tailored nutrition that she loves.

      Always,
      Sage

  193. Hi,

I am slightly disappointed with this news for the same reasons other customers have stated. I will continue subscribing as Logan our Gordon Setter enjoys his food. A guarantee has been given in several responses that kibble will not change, however can you please confirm that if this does change customers would be informed?

    Thanks

    Wendy Clark

    1. Hi Wendy,

We’re so glad to hear that Logan is enjoying his food. We mean it when we say that the high quality ingredients in your dog’s food will not be changing. Like with this announcement, we’ll always make sure that our customers are kept informed with any news. You’re all a part of our journey and we appreciate your support.

      Jack

  194. What are the benefits that Purina get from giving you money (investing). I am puzzled as you state that nothing is changing including the ingredients, the way you are managed, your offices, price packaging etc so why would they invest? What’s in it for them and how would that affect us as customers. Please don’t copy and paste an answer from above as we deserve to know why.

Rossi currently loves your food and it is very good for his weight management and stomach.

    1. Hi Karlana,

It’s a good question and their reasons for investing is why we’ve chosen to take it. Purina can see what we’ve been able to achieve in the four years we’ve been around and understand that no-one else can do what we do. Our custom and unique kibbles allow us to provide dogs of all different shapes and sizes with truly tailored nutrition. Purina understand that this is the future of dog food and they want to be a part of that future rather than change it.

Of course you’d like to know what this means for you and Rossi – who wouldn’t? We’ll be improving the kinds of things all of our customers have let us know they care about. It allows us to hire more people in the team, which means more support for you and Rossi. We’ll be able to make improvements to our already innovative technology and we’ll also invest in spreading the word about our life-changing nutrition across the UK and eventually, the world.

It’s such fantastic news that Rossi loves his food and you’re seeing noticeable changes to his wellbeing. This is exactly why we will continue to do what we do best.

      Jack

  195. I’m not happy about this. I feed my dog based on the personal touch we got from Tails. I will be watching closely for the inevitable change in product and service that will come now we are buying from purina/nestle.

It was good while it lasted.

    1. Hi Paul,

Customers like you and your dog are the exact reason we’ve been able to come this far. We would never want you to feel you’ve lost that personal touch which is why we’ll continue to provide a personalised and high quality service that appreciates just how much your loyalty means to us.

      Jack

  196. Pity you didn’t get investment from an ETHICAL company. It didn’t have to be a pet food manufacturer. I’m sure there are other companies out there that would have invested. Your investment with Purina reflects badly on tails.com which is such a shame. Do not let them interfere with your company and products.

    1. Hi Shirley,

I’m really sad to hear your views of our new partner, this is not how we see them. I can appreciate your personal opinions on matters like this, but want you to know that we’ll always be here for you if you choose to come back to us.

      Best,
      Sage

  197. ive read all the comments good and bad and believe you when you say will stay same so archie can continue to LOVE his food, the only 1 he hasnt gone off of after few weeks. also as i have a bad back so glad i dont have to lug food home from supermarket. everything arrives in 1 delivery. also hes never gone off your original treats or dental chews. keep up the good work. it was good to be able to talk to you about him gaining weight when castrated and changing his plan accordingly

  198. I am also not happy and very disappointed in Tails.com for such a bad choice ethically in financial investment and confused as to why if you are doing so well. My dog is very happy on your food and very healthy too. I will also have to make a decision about the future and also disappointed that packaging is not able to be recycled or is biodegradable 😐

    1. Hi Jane,

We never want to disappoint our customers and chose to take the investment to provide you with a better service, for example, a bigger team to offer more support for you and your dog when needed. The new relationship, as well as our passion and our customer’s support, means we’re able to achieve our goal of changing the world of pet food for good much faster.

      Jack

  199. “Purina are long term investors who share the same values as we do when it comes to our pets.” – sadly thats just not true. Purina are involved in animal testing and interested in profit. As for their parent company Nestle most people are now aware of their global unethical practices. What a shame – Zak has thrived on your product but we will be looking elsewhere for his food asap. Please don’t respond with how you are a remaining a standalone company- no company invests without some payback.

    1. Hi Carol,

We don’t see our new partners that way and Purina do not conduct testing on animals. Their feeding studies see which food pets prefer but nothing invasive or harmful will ever take place.

Your pet’s well-being will always be our priority. We know how this can be a very personal choice to make and we’ll be really sad to see you and Zak go.

      Jack

  200. Not impressed to hear of your collaboration with Purina, a brand I would never consider using.
Please send me a breakdown of the ingredients in Tess’ food with each delivery so that I may monitor the content each month.
I will stay with you for now as the service so far has been excellent. A pity to lower your high standards by joining with this company.

    1. Hi Barbara,

We’re really happy to have you and Tess as customers. You can take a look at a complete breakdown of everything in Tess’s blend from your account – we know how important it is for you to know. You can find the information by clicking on the ‘View and edit profile’ button on the main page of your account. If you then click on ‘View feeding plan’, you can see the breakdown.

We’ve always used high quality ingredients and we guarantee that this will not change.

      Jack

  201. Wow I’m really worried now. My border terrier is just recovering yet again from pancreatitis and your food has been the best for him. If any changes were to be made regarding the content of his food I would expect to be notified immediately. I am trusting tails.com to have Perry’s best interests in mind at all times.

    1. Hi Linda,

I can assure you there’s nothing to be worried about – we’ve created Perry’s blend to be tailored to his needs and his health condition. His health and happiness means everything to us and nothing changes. He’ll continue to receive a tailor-made blend using the same unique kibbles that provide him with the suitable diet he needs.

Both Perry’s and your best interests will always be in our minds. This new relationship, or anything else, will not change that.

      Jack

  202. Wow
I am truely sad to hear this Purina have the most horrendous name out there with repeated complaints online many of which are from vets! and animal welfare at risk, I for one will be cancelling my subscription as I’m not prepared to risk my dogs health and I’m not comfortable with this partnership with purina
This is as said before a way to stamp out competition, why fix what’s not broken! I loved the personal and unique touch of tails and Lilly loves her food so this is a real shame!

    1. Hi Katie,

This is really sad to hear and we certainly don’t see it like that – we’ll continue providing the personalised service that our customers know and love. We understand how this can be a very personal decision but we’d hate to lose you and Lilly. If you ever want to come back to tails, we’d love to have you.

      Jack

  203. Well to say your news was a surprise is an understatement. I’m going to carry on with the subscription for Shelly, because she is happy on the food and your service is brilliant, but, the first sign of change we will vote with our feet! 🐕 Christine and Shelly

    1. Hi Christine (and Shelly),

It’s lovely to hear how much Shelly enjoys her food. I want to take the opportunity to assure you we’ll be continuing to do what we do best and provide Shelly with the same food she loves.

      Jack

  204. I cannot believe that an ethical company is getting into bed with the devil incarnate Nestle one of (if not) the most awful companys in the world.
If this is a decision taken to grow the business why not launch crowd funding?
This is just another example of a great little company bowing to corporate greed and selling out, Ozzy will now have to find his food elsewhere
    GUTTED

    1. Hi Jason,

I’m really sad to hear that you feel this way, we’d hate to see you and Ozzy go. As a small company we’re always looking to grow. This decision allows us to do so, in a way that means we can continue to do what we do best- better.

I appreciate that this is a personal choice for you and Ozzy and should you ever want to come back to us we’d love to have you.

      Karri

  205. not happy, Purina (nestle) test on animals. I chose your company for its ethics and now they are being influenced by this other company. Its not what a dog lover wants to hear. Now have to think about changing their food again. Did you look into this animal testing??

    1. Hi Linda

Our commitment to dogs’ wellbeing remains at the heart of everything we do – none of our products or ingredients have ever be tested on animals and this will not change. Purina do not conduct testing on animals. Their feeding studies see which food pets prefer but nothing invasive or harmful will ever take place.

      Emily

      1. Do you test your products on animals?
Does Nestlé routinely test its products on animals?
No. We do not use animal testing to develop conventional foods and drinks such as coffee, tea, cereal and chocolate.
Are you ever required to test new products or ingredients on animals?
On very rare occasions, yes. National authorities require new food products and ingredients to be safe for human consumption, and in certain cases it is necessary to carry out animal tests to demonstrate this.
We can assure you that we use animal testing as little as possible, and that our care of animals always complies with the highest standards. Animal testing should only take place where absolutely necessary, as part of the regulatory process to commercialise a product, or as part of the development of novel food products, such as those with healthcare benefits.
        Why is animal testing necessary?
Animal studies are critically important to make advances in fundamental nutrition and health science.
This research helps to provide the scientific basis for developing novel ingredients, or new nutritional strategies for improving health. This includes medical foods that help people with acute and chronic medical conditions.
What is your approach to animal testing?
Where animal testing is necessary, it is vital that we are fully aware of, and our actions are guided by, our ethical responsibility for the welfare of animals. This includes proper housing, nutrition, care and humane handling.
Any application for animal testing must be submitted to our internal ethics committee for approval, prior to its submission to the relevant authorities.
We make sure that all our employees who look after animals in our research facilities are trained in the care of animals in research, to ensure absolute competency and awareness of the ethical issues involved. We keep abreast of new advances in animal testing, as well as alternatives to animal testing.
When carrying out animal studies, we apply the internationally recognised ‘Triple R’ and the relevant animal welfare principles to ensure that any tests are only used where necessary and that animals are cared for to the highest standards.
What is meant by ‘Triple R’?
The three Rs stand for: replace, reduce and refine. This means that we are always developing new scientific methods that, ideally, remove the need for animal testing altogether wherever possible, reduce the number of animals being tested, and refine the testing process.
        How are these studies regulated?
All animal studies are evaluated and approved by the official animal ethics authority at a local level. The studies are done in full compliance with all relevant animal welfare regulations, such as the European Union Directive on the protection of animals used for experimental and other scientific purposes.
We also support the international standards for animal welfare provided by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), and by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

  206. Waffle has tried purina in the past and does not like it , in fact refused to eat it . If the food becomes a variation of purina food he won’t eat it .

    1. Hi June,

You can tell Waffle not to worry – we won’t be putting Purina kibbles into our blends at any stage. His food will remain the same and he can continue loving it just the same too.

      Best,
      Sage

  207. I am sad to hear this. As a strong believer in Animal Welfare I cannot support a company like Nestle so I will be looking elsewhere for my dogs food.

    1. Hi Helen,

I can always appreciate your personal choices regarding matters like this. If you ever do choose to come back to us, we’ll always be here ready to show you that we haven’t changed as a company.

      Best,
      Sage

  208. Please don’t be bullied by the larger company. I hope you don’t change anything and that Purina can change to be like Tails.com . Let’s hope the big boys listen
    Barbara

    1. Hi Barbara

Thank you so much for your concern, this really means a lot to us and don’t worry nothing will change. Our mission to improve the world of pet food remains the same and we want thank you again for your support 🙂

      Best

      Emily

  209. I share many of these concerns that your involvement with Purina will ultimately mean poorer quality, mass produced dog food. Unfortunately there seems to be only one reply to these comments repeated over and over without actually addressing the concerns, especially regarding bulk additives.
Very disappointed with this news and I also will now start looking for an alternative product.
    Elaine

    1. Hi Elaine,

I understand how important knowing the contents of your dog’s food is. We guarantee we’ll maintain our same high standards we’ve always held ourselves to and we guarantee the quality of our ingredients will stay the same. This new relationship does not change the decisions we make or the sourcing of our own products.

      Jack

  210. Very concerned to hear this news, I was employed by a company that had significant investment from a large corporate business and initially no change, but after a period of time, we were brought in line and had to accept changes to our current supplier and purchase ingredients from different suppliers of different quality.
Large corporate businesses have share holders that expect a return on their investment.
I as others will regrettably look for an alternative supplier.

    1. Hi Tom,

Please don’t be concerned – there’s certainly no need for that. We remain a standalone company, making our own decisions about our products. If you must go, please know that we’d love to keep you and your dog with us and show you how committed we are to maintaining the high level of quality we’ve always given.

      Always,
      Sage

  211. Disappointed to hear of the merger with Purina, however, my very fussy Sheba will let me know if anything changes to her kibble which she loves, and then I am afraid I will have to leave you.

    1. Hi Sue

It’s fantastic to hear how much Sheba is loving her food – especially as we know how stressful it can be with a fussy eater. We totally understand how important it is to ensure you dog is getting the best nutrition and is enjoying it too, this still remains at the heart of what we do. I want to take the opportunity to assure you that Sheba’s food be of the same high quality as it always has been, as will all of our products.

      Best

      Emily

  212. I too am concerned about this merger. I find it hard to believe that Purina will not have an impact upon you in the near future. I will wait before making a decision but am not at all confident about the future od your quality and pricing.
I do hope for the best for your company however.

    1. Hi Marilyn,

We understand how important the quality of your dog’s food is and please be assured that this investment will not change our decisions on pricing. We will always work to avoid passing costs, such as increased cost of delivery, ingredients and wages, on to our customers, and we’ll continue to do so. We guarantee that the quality of our food will be of the same high quality it has always been.

      Jack

  213. I’m personally gutted about this, every time I have tried a purina product with my dogs over the years it has sent them absolutely nutty and bouncing off the walls!
Sorry tails.com but I for one will be looking elsewhere. Damn shame you made this decision without asking your customers opinions first

    1. Hi Andy,

We really hope you’ll reconsider. You won’t be receiving Purina products and we’ll continue using our own food exclusively. We’re the only ones capable of providing truly tailored nutrition and this news does not affect that.

      Jack

  214. Sad to hear about your change of ethics, the big boys will rule in the end it won’t be your choice, always had good products and service from tails, will be sad to see a good company get swallowed up. Good luck for the future

    1. Hi John,

We can assure you that you’ll continue receiving the same products and service you’re accustomed to. We’ll still be an independent company that makes our own decisions. Our tailor-made blends are essential to who we are and we’re the only ones that can do what we do.

      Jack

    1. Hi Cheryl,

We understand and please don’t be concerned – we would never take any chances with Bobby’s health issues either. We’ll continue providing his tailor-made blend that’s made just for him.

      Jack

  215. I have to say I am sorry to hear that tails. com and purina are sharing the same dog basket. I will be watching with great interest on what happens to our brilliant dog food and treats.

    1. Hi Alethea,

The brilliant food and treats that you love will not be changing. Delivering high quality, tailored nutrition is what we’re all about and we guarantee this will still be the case.

      Jack

  216. How it is extremely sad to start the day with such disappointing news. Tails.com bought by Purina!, the company we thought we finally and proudly found capable of making our dogs healthy and happy with its food, the system we felt was making our life easier and were recommending to all out friends families & acquaintances. The small company that was growing fast in the most well organised, tangible, accessible & ethical way ! ! (well, apart from the unnecessary far too generous use of extra paper & plastic in the packaging you guys have promised us to be looking into in order to find better and more sustainable ways)

Now bought by Purina, I mean PURINA-NESTLE’? ! ! ! which have nothing to do with those qualities, especially in regards to being ETHICAL! What a shame! We are really sad for your terrible choice, for being part of a multinational that is anything than the reasons why we used to love tails.com!
Really sad guys that you too put money before anything else, there would have definitely be other more respectable ways to grow your company, maybe slower but clearly more fruitful in the long run. Becoming part of the Purina business is the worse choice you could make.
Its so sad we now have to source another company like the one you were until this day and so, many other customers will do the same not agreeing with Nestle’ and similar companies’ ethos. A real sad choice.

    1. Hi Monica,

It’s devastating to hear you feel this way but we see this investment differently. Our priority and focus is completely on nutrition and this has certainly not changed. We’ll continue to make our own decisions, using our own products and all of us here at tails.com will continue in our mission to provide as many dogs as possible with the tailored diet they deserve. We chose to take the investment to help us achieve our goal quicker and improve the personalised support you all know and love.

I understand that personal choice plays a part in big decisions when it comes to your dog’s wellbeing and we fully appreciate that. We really hope to see you again in future.

      Jack

  217. Nestle is an evil, disgusting, greedy company who who are responsible for hundreds and thousands of deaths in third world countries.
This is bad news for your company and nluou will soon regret this stupid move!! Of course your going to be part of a much bigger plan. Believe me they don’t care about you, dogs, or your uk based factories and staff. 5gey have so much power they will do what the hell they want with your company. You might as well use your share holders certificate and contracts to wipe your bums and start looking for another job!

  218. Sadly I am also going to cancel my subscription. I have boycotted Purina products for over 30 years and am MOST unhappy about this merger. My current order on its way will be my last.

    Christine Burke
    On behalf of Bella

    1. Hi Christine,

It’s really sad to lose you over this news. We understand this can be a personal decision and if you’d ever like to come back to tails, we’d love to see you again.

      Jack

  219. Very disappointed that you have given politician type answers to numerous questions by failing to reveal what Purina get out of this “takeover” I no longer trust your motives. Sorry I will be cancelling.

  220. This concerns me and I would like confirmation that you won’t be substituting ingredients for cheaper ones.
As far a a joint venture is concerned Purina/nestle are only motivated by profit for the shareholders, it’s a shame you are no longer an independent producer as I believe this was the main reason I was attracted to your products for both Fin and Saphie.
I need assurance that no products will be changed or substituted. Also adding additional ash to products as a filler.
    This is such a shame.
    Emma

    1. Hi Emma,

I can assure you that we will not be changing the quality of our ingredients – we’ll always hold ourselves to the same high standard we have since we first started. You won’t find any Purina products in your orders, only the same tails.com products Fin and Saphie love.

      Jack

  221. I will wait with abated breath and see what happens. I’m not happy that you have let Purina invest – how much influence will they have on your products over time. You seem to have this standard response whenever anyone mentions this, and I find that a little worrying too! My dog loves your food and is very healthy for his age. Neither he nor I would be very happy if that were to change. I personally can’t see Purina staying io=n the background for very long. I hope you don’t come to regret your decision as it will affect so many of us!

    1. Hi Iris,

I’m so glad that your dog loves the food and is the picture of health. The benefits of the tailored nutrition we provide is exactly the reason that Purina wanted to be a part of what we do. While we’ve chosen to take a significant investment, we continue independently, making our own decisions and putting your dog’s health at the forefront of everything that we do. This is our number one priority and this new development does not change that at all.

      Jack

  222. I am not happy about you going with Purina but will continue unless the products change as if my Dogs get sick I will be then cancelling , Until it changes I will stay but if I HAD KNOW BEFORE I WOULD NOT HAVE JOINED AGAIN

    1. Hi Sandra,

I know how important it is to have complete confidence in the food you feed your beloved dogs, I feel the same way about my own dog. We can guarantee that the quality of the ingredients in your dogs blend will not change. We’re still just as committed to providing your dog with a high quality, nutritionally tailored product as we always have been.

We hear your concerns, and we’re always available to answer any questions you may have.

      Karri

  223. Lottie and lulu are doing well on your product , you listen to all my concerns and act accordingly, however I’m worried that you will be sending me Purina recipes , I’m not a fan as both my dogs when they were pups were on this make. It was not suitable for either , made them smell awful, stools bad and other concerns. I soon stopped using Purina , I have my concerns ??? Love tails would be a shame to spoil a good winning product. Suzanne

    1. Hi Suzanne,

Please don’t worry a minute longer, I can guarantee that we won’t be putting Purina kibbles in our blends at any stage. Lottie and Lulu’s tailor-made blends will stay the same and we’ll still use our high quality ingredients. Please give them a big hug for me and tell them not to worry – their tails.com food will remain unchanged.

      Best,
      Sage

    1. Hi Rob

We are sorry to hear you feel this way, we understand that these kind of things can be very personal decision and if you ever wanted to come back to tails we’d love to see you.

      Best,

      Emily

  224. I join the comments made by some of your emails senders.
I would like to think the ingredients will remain as they are now.

Rupert and Peanut enjoy their food and have never been sick whilst having either wet or dry food.

I wish you all the best with your new partnership, may it be very successful.
I am looking forward to my next delivery.

    Very best regards.
    Roxane Andrieu

    1. Hi Roxane

Thank you so much for your well wishes – that’s fantastic to hear Rupert and Peanut are loving their food. The quality of our ingredients will remain the same and we will always made sure their recipe matches their changing needs 🙂

      Best,

      Emily

  225. I too share the concern of your current customers who have commented earlier.
If Nestle is investing in Tails then it is likely that they see Tails as an innovative competitor. Buying-in to Tails gives Nestle access to innovation and new channels of marketing prior, I suggest, to acquisition of the business and adoption of the Tails brand as Purina.
While I would welcome being able to buy Purdie’s food from a retail outlet I envisage that it will be at a price when Nestle secures control, i.e. no reduction and more likely an increase.
While it is likely to be congratulations to the business owners, who will make their fortune, perhaps deservedly, it is likely to be commiserations to your existing customers who may bite the bullet but, more likely, take their custom elsewhere and your employees who will find that Richmond ceases to be a manufacturing centre.
The Purina formula has helped Purdie maintain a healthy alimentary tract (consistently firm poo) and a healthy weight.
Possibly unrelated but I have noticed a reduction in the weight of Purdie’s monthly food supply. Sorry, but without guarantees on quality and price I shall be looking for a new source of kibble.
    Peter G Baker

    1. Hi Peter,

Thank you for your feedback, I want to tell you that I can guarantee the quality of Purdie’s food and ingredients will not change and any decisions we make regarding prices will not be in reflect of the investment. We are are a standalone company who make our own decisions about our products. We care so much about what we do and would never let anything jeopardise that. Purina will help us spread our product and services ever further, so more dogs can enjoy the same tailored nutrition that Purdie already does.

      Always,
      Sage

  226. Hi
I can understand the commercial stance but I’m be fearful that the food would not be the same .
I would not wish to cancel as Katie is the best she has ever been on the food but I think I would have too

    Regards
    Eve

    1. Hi Eve

It’s such brilliant news to hear that Katie is thriving on her tailor-made blend. I want to assure you that with this investment, nothing will change – we’ll continue providing the high-quality nutrition that she is loving and this will always be our top priority.

Hugs to Katie and thank you for your understanding

      Best,

      Emily

  227. Sorry to say that like so many others, I’m very disappointed by this move. A massive part of the attraction of tails.com for me was the very fact that you were an independent company producing an affordable, superior product to the likes of Purina. Once they have you in their financial grip, they will undoubtedly start calling the shots at some point in the future in order to realise a return for their investment. Quality will be compromised and prices will increase. What a shame that an initiative such as this that has clearly gained such a solid customer base, will now fall into the hands of the very companies you set out to compete against by producing a far superior product and with the best interests of our pets at heart.
    Disappointed!

    1. Hi Pete,

I’m really sad that you feel this way, as this isn’t how we see it at all. Purina have watched us grow over the last four years, and they recognise the benefits of tailor made nutrition. They have chosen to invest in us so that we can continue to do what we do best, for more dogs and their owners.

This investment doesn’t change what we do, or how we feel about the importance of tailor made nutrition and the health and happiness of your dog.

I really hope you’ll decide to stay with us, we’d hate to see you go.

      Karri

  228. Such a shame.
Your food is great and slightly higher in price but one I was prepared to pay to support a stand alone British brand.
Collaboration with Purina may come back to bite you as many, many animal lovers and pet owners cannot condone the practices of this company.

    1. Hi Su,

We’re really sorry to hear that. We don’t see our new partners that way, and our commitment to dogs’ wellbeing and health remains the same as ever. Although we’ve taken investment from Purina we continue as an independent company, who make our own decisions and source our own product on our own terms.

      Jack

  229. Hi
I’m feeling a little nervous at some of the comments people have written about purina.Poppy, Digger & Pixie love Tails.com they really do enjoy the food. I hope this continues to be so. It took a long time to find a food they all enjoy & my dogs have never looked so healthy & the nice thing is we can choose not to have cereal & cheap ingredients. I do hope it stays the same.

    1. Hey Julie

I am so happy to hear Poppy, Digger and Pixie are loving their food and are looking so healthy too. Be sure to let them know that nothing will change to their food and they can continue to look forward to the same tailored blends as usual.

      All the best

      Emily

  230. A little concerned about the Purina investment. You seem to be issuing the same standard statement of ‘don’t worry nothing will change’ but I, like many others are highly sceptical. My Poppy has allergies and is very sensitive and I can’t risk her being exposed to the shoddy food that Purina produces. I do hope you are right and nothing will change but let’s be honest it is all about money so whilst all may be well now, further down the line your excellent current standards will be compromised. It saddens me when good companies, with solid morale values, sell their soul to big corporate giants. Sad day….

    1. Hi Gemma (and Poppy),

I’m sorry you feel this way, we never want you to have any concerns over the food you’re feeding Poppy. Please be assured that Poppy’s blend will continue to be formulated with the high quality ingredients she’s used to, we’d never compromise on this.

This investment won’t change how we do things, we’ll now be able to provide even more dogs with their own tailor made blends- something we’re really looking forward to.

      Karri

  231. Hi
I can’t say this news doesn’t concern me a bit; I hope they are silent investors!
Hope all goes well with it though, and unless there are any changes to quality, or customer service, Yoda will carry on being a happy customer with a full tummy.

    1. Hi Jenny,

I hear your concerns, as fellow dog owners ourselves we know how important it is to give your dog the very best. I’d like to assure you that our commitment to providing the best tailored nutrition has not changed, this will always be at the heart of what we do.

This investment means that we’ll be able to provide you both with even more support and a better service, along with many more dogs.

We really appreciate your continued support, it’s means so much to us that Yoda is enjoying his blend.

      Karri

  232. I’m not happy about this news. We’re all realists and know that as soon as a large conglomerate takes over a smaller company they leave them alone for a short while but then start meddling with the profit margins, product design and brand. Do you really think Purina care about your “hand mixing department” in Heathrow or your offices in “dog friendly Richmond”? No. They don’t. They are a huge pet food brand who will gobble up Tails.com by leveraging all those great brand values that you’ve worked so hard to build up and then over time sell us a sub-standard product. As soon as I’ve found a good alternative, I’m off. If I wanted my dog to eat food by Nestle, I wouldn’t have started giving my hard earned money to Tails.com and would have bought a mass produced and much cheaper dog food. You’ve made a big mistake. Your reputation and brand is priceless, but your Senior Management Team/Board of Directors have decided it’s not and have put a price on it.

    1. Hi Jeanette,

It’s upsetting to hear how you feel about this news and I know how essential it is to have confidence in the quality of Dixie’s food. We chose to take this investment from Purina because it was on our terms, meaning we will still be making all of our decisions, sourcing all of our ingredients and continuing to do what we’ve been doing since day one – providing dogs all over the UK with tailored nutrition to keep them happy and healthy. Purina have acknowledged everything that we’ve achieved and recognise what we do as the future and want to be a part of that.

  233. I am concerned about this news. I am willing to wait and see how this ‘improves’ an already great product which is the only dog food my dog will eat. If the current dog food ingredients are replaced with inferior alternatives my very fussy diva dog will sus straight away and il have to cancel and go back to home making all her dinner. I hope it doesnt come to that.

    1. Hey Alicejan

We hear you and we’ve got your fussy diva’s back – The quality of the ingredients in her blend won’t change we will always made sure her recipe matches her changing needs. So no need to worry about spending hours in the kitchen 🙂

      All the best

  234. Bonnie my rescue Staffie cross has stomach and skin sensitivities, as well as arthritis and she is a little overweight. Bonnie loves Tails.com food, she has lost some weight and she is in really good condition. I took the details of the food to the vet, to show him what she is eating and he really liked the idea of her having tailor made food. Bonnie loves the food and treats and gets very excited when the box arrives.

Sadly, I am a little concerned about changes and why Purina wants to take over your business. I really liked the idea of supporting a UK business producing a good quality product.

    1. Hi Virginia,

It’s so great to hear that Bonnie is doing so well, I have a rescue dog myself so I know how important it is to get the right food. I appreciate your concerns, please be assured that the high quality ingredients we use will not change.

We’ll still be based in our Richmond office, with our own dogs under our desks (mine is snoring currently). Purina has seen how far we’ve come in four years, and want to help us achieve even more. This investment will help us to reach even more dogs, and provide tailor made blends to all of them.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to drop us an email to questions@tails.com and we’ll be happy to help.

  235. I do hope that Hooches food doesn’t change. It has taken me a long time to get the right blend of food. As he is a very sick dog and in the last throws of his life, I want him to enjoy it. Since starting in his food he has had no pancreatitis and the gas in his tummy is almost gone.(believe me it was eye watering.

    1. Hi Christine,

It’s really great to hear that Hooch has been doing well on his tailor made blend, we always want him to enjoy his meals. I can guarantee that the high quality ingredients we use will not change, and we’ll still deliver Hooch his blend each month.

His health and happiness is so important to us, and will always be at the core of what we do.

  236. Coupar is so enjoying his food since I started with tails.com that I’m loath to go looking for a substitute. However, the news of Purina investment is cause for concern. I’ve read the answers to the comments with interest. I will be monitoring the situation closely and hope my concerns prove to be unfounded.

    1. Hi Jackie,

It’s really great to hear that Coupar is loving his blend. I understand your concerns, please be assured that Coupar’s blend will still be formulated with the high quality ingredients he loves. We would never compromise on quality when it comes to his food, and we’ll still be making our own decisions.

If you have any questions at all, please do drop us an email to questions@tails.com– we’re always here to help.
